I donʻt know anything about owls and the reason for their hoots. Might have been nice if there were notes on that. Now if it was wise old owl does not "hunt" often. I would have concluded his experience as a hunter means he gets a bigger meal everytime he hunts.

You make a good and profound point with this poem. Yes, the wisest of folks speak less, listen more but, when the do speak, it is most often worth listening to.

Well done. I think this is a great example of a 2-4-2 poem. There is not very much space to include a whole lot of written details so you manage to use a familiar motif (the wise owl) and teach a lesson through it. Even though the owl is more wise than most of his counterparts, he chooses not to "hoot" as he knows it almost always does more harm than good.
