Wow! What a difficult story to write about. Your story is well told and cleverly put together with much emotion and repetition to help land your words. Good job.

This is a sad story and everyone's grief is different and no one can know what another person suffers when they lose their loved one. I felt the emotion here and we never stop grieving, a sensitive and heartfelt write, love Dolly x

I'm sorry this had to happen. We all understand death in general but each incident is unique from the other. I guess that's because they were our own family, our own loved ones, and our own tragic experiences.

You did a super job of telling your story. I agree with you that no one knows. That repeated line emphasizes your point well. I like the repeat at the end, too. I would suggest categorizing this as non-fiction. My sincere condolences on you loss even though it has probably bee years. One never forgets.
Thanks for sharing. Best wishes.
Respectfully, Jan

caskets....... (a normal ellipsis will do lol)

the devastating news of our downed Soldiers of Vietnam! (why are you yelling? :P )

Aside from some stray punctuation, I thought this piece was really good. Great work and thanks for sharing. Later daze.

I?mfcan exclamation mark indicates yelling( which I personally don?t think but means that) then... yes I?m yelling because boys were dying! However, thank you for your review.

Hi, Jerri. I used to get that same "I know how you feel" sentiment when my only son, Bob the Third died at age 14 years in 1981. HE died in a freak auto accident getting hit in the head with a bowling ball. For more info please see 'Top of The Mountain' In my folio, under short stories from about ten years ago.

This piece of yours is very well written, my friend.
Perhaps for variety, I would not start each example with "N one knows." There are many ways to offer other beginnings. Just athought

Bless you, Jerri. Bob

Bob... so sorry about your son. Wow... that was a freak accident. A bowling ball for you... lightning for me ! You just never know do you. Thank you for your suggestion but I think I?ll keep it as it?s my whole concept for the story. No one knows! Thanks again for your review and blessings. Jerri

How true your words are "No one knows....." Knowing this phrase is so upsetting to heart broken people, I never say that to them. However having said this, I know sympathizers mean well
who say it. They are just trying to express feelings of sympathy. When my Mother died, I was living in a Danish community and every one who saw me said in a matter of fact tone of voice and expression "Oh Pastor you have my sympathy." I know they meant well, but it did
nothing for the sadness I was feeling. The best thing to say is "John, I am so sorry for the death of your_______I'll be happy to help you in any way I can." and if they are the huggee type offer outstretched arms.

Thank you for sharing this story. The "military brass" knocking on the door is a scene that is recognized by many but has been experienced by few. I certainly have no way of knowing how the news must have felt, but I am grateful there are writers like you that can illustrate how it felt for you and therefore strengthen my understanding to some degree.
