This is a heartbreaking entry for the In Their Memory writing prompt. I give this poem/story thumbs up for his bravery in war and a prayer for his wife. Well done!

This is a great addition to the 'in their memory' contest, if not a sorrowful one. Powerful ending and great work overall, best of luck to you, thank you for sharing. Later daze.

This is very sad and unfortunate. I guess that it may seem unbearable to be without the one you consider to be your soulmate. I think that he would have wanted her to live on although it did appear from her perspective that their was nothing to live for. Thanks for sharing this intense and well written work. Well done!

    Hello Jeffrey,

Thank you for your excellent review, I appreciate it. According to the historians this has happened many times throughout all the wars in the past and even today.

Thank you for bringing up a point we all forget about, the families of those who were killed in action. Thank you for sharing. Good luck in the contest.

I like the picture, the color of your poem's background and the poem itself. It almost looks like it was hand carved. The story itself is most likely a common one, and one we do not hear that much about. I give thanks for those that serve, and a special blessing to those who gave their all. The families are not forgotten either.
Nicely done.
I had the privilege of witnessing an Arlington ceremony, and I think every high school child should visit the cemetery to know how many have indeed sacrificed for what we all have.
Thanks for posting.

    Hello Dick,

Thank you for your outstanding review, I appreciate it very much. I'm an old Vietnam vet and spent two years in that part of the world. These things do happen more than the public is aware of. The government simply keeps things of this nature as quiet as possible.

Have a great day my friend and welcome to Fanstory. If I can be of any help to you, please let me know.

Thank you for paying tribute to the wives of soldiers killed during wars. Their stories are often not told and they have gone through such terrible experiences and grief. Best wishes in the contest!

This poem pulled at my heart strings! How awful to lose your husband so close to retiring due to war but to have lost a child to cancer would be unbearable to me too. I have lost a child due to Huntinhgton's diseae and it's still hard for me to think about it six years later. But, as my mother used to say that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Although, death isn't a temporary problem but the pain will someday get less. Good job!

A very well-written heartfelt poem about the suffering and heartache everyone have to go through when a beloved soldier husband and father never returns from his last mission.
