Love the gloves and heels. I hear a lot of sadness in this poem. There's a lot of loss and resignation to things that could not be changed. I like the phrase "I try to be kind as it crosses my mind, did she think of those she left behind?" It would be hard to reconcile the actions and behaviors. Good luck in the contest.

Thanks. It's really regrettable that there was so much secrecy in adoptions back then, but the judgment of others saw to that.

Requirements: Look at some old photographs and write about a memory or a thought that they give you. If possible (not required) include the image in your poem.(What a clever adn creative way to seek new information!)
Enjoyed the read.
Best of luck in the Memories writing prompt contest.

Thanks for reviewing!

I would rate it a 4 just because of the intrigue built into the story (poem). I really appreciated the rhyming pattern that you used and the 6 line stanza in the middle worked well.
However, the rhythm was broken for me when I hit the fourth stanza and it was only 4 lines and then the fifth back up to six.
Working out this mechanics would really help me with the continuity of the read.

Very powerful entry, and an interesting personal story. Two of your lines in particular strike me, as I look closely at the picture. "Is she thinking to make amends?", and "She looks happy..." . I see a woman with a lot on her mind, trying hard to smile for the camera. Just my take. And sorry, but I can't shed any light on the location.
Good luck with this entry,
Dick

A very well-written heartfelt poem and photo that brings back memories that may not be pleasant but we still want to to know why a mother would leave her children behind.

Wow! This poem is intriquing and thought provoking. It lends itself to an emotional response as I feel for her 4 daughters left to trudge through the wreckage she left behind.

A unique way of searching for answers. Your piece describes the hurt caused by a mother who deserts her children. All legitimate questions. Unfortunately with her death those answers will be hard to find. Perhaps this picture will help. Best of luck. Thanks for sharing.

This is an excellent-although slightly sad poem! It's very touching and moving. I'm really sorry your mother left you like she did. :(
I'm happy to tell you which-and where she is in that photo! Buckingham Fountain in Chicago. I stared at the picture for a little bit, a nagging sense that I've seen that fountain somewhere (not in person, mind you). So I did some research, and found a picture of the Buckingham Fountain, and it matches perfectly! I hope this is helpful for you. :)
Once again, this is a great poem, and I wish you the best of luck in the contest!

Thanks Tommy... good detective work. I googled the fountain just now and i see the skyline has changed a lot - so many skyscrapers!
I wonder if mother was working in Chicago or just visiting. Wouldn't it be amazing if someone from FanStory recognized her?

Yes that would! Quite amazing indeed. Sounds like you have a good mystery on your hands! :)
