This is such an adorable, light hearted entry to this contest! I love how you started out with anapestic meter - fun rhythm conveying that your poem had its own life. However you also showed what inspires you inside and out: Thank you for joining the contest and telling us about your way of getting inspired :)

It's not my cup of tea, but it's clever and skillful. You make a serious point, too: You have to get into the mindset of your reader to communicate to/delight that reader. By doing so, in a sense you become or identify with that person.
I submitted Gift to the 100 word flash fiction contest. To write that story, I had to become a 12 year old girl. I am a male and 77 years old, but the process made me feel much younger.

Writing as a 12 yr old girl for an "older" man would be a challenge for sure. Of course, now I'll have to read it!
Writing for the young definitely gets you thinking a lot younger - a kind of "letting loose."

I have the same problem, I can write words (lyrics) but no tune comes to mind. I'm like you, I look at it from a kids point of view that poems should rhyme. In fact I've been accused of being myopic by a reviewer about that. Good luck in the contest.

thanks so much. I really envy people who write their own songs. I guess it would help if I played the guitar- which of course, I don't. :)

And I enjoyed hearing about how you think of the words to songs but can't come up with the melodies. One tiny flaw. Your rhymes are swell except for those in stanza one which are not quite "true" like the others. I'm betting this entry will do very well in the contest. Rod

Ha!! If only!! Nope - still 'waiting on the husband' to finish garage/shed and decide to 'take the realtor plunge' - lol! Bringing the two boys back to school next week and just keeping all of my work on the rest of the house 'neat and clean' (and classes start this week)... ;) :)
