This is a six star work that ends with a line, that my mother used to say all the time, whenever I see a homeless person that thought crosses my mind. It could be anyone of us.
I read your notes and cried, as I have lost several family members to suicide. I believe that Satin whispers to them until they can't stand it anymore, and that suicide is the result of his evil pestering until he thinks he has won over another soul. But I also believe that between the decision, the execution of the act, and the final breath, St, Michael can step in to grab back the prize.
I will hold onto that Hope, for God is mightier than the devil, and can send His angels to our aid, because He gave us life to begin with.
Good luck in the contest, you have my vote.

Thank you so much Louise for your six star rating and excellent review. I join in your sorrow for loved ones lost to suicide and also for the hope of their salvation, at the last minute. I believe the Lord is merciful that way. God bless you.

Hello, anonymous,

Nice entry for the Choose a Color writing prompt contest. A great topic. The poem is very well written. Good luck in the contest!

A heartfelt account about suicide. I recommend adding the suicide prevention hotline to your author notes. 1-800-273-8255.

The contest calls for one color, but you have several colors. The font is really hard to read...I recommend to make it lighter.

Blessings and thank you so much for your excellent rating and review. Special thanks for letting me know about the missing hotline and other recommendations that I'd made but for some reason didn't save at the end of my notes. Thank you, I don't know how long this work would have been out there without the intended purpose of me writing it in the first place. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

A very well-written heafelt poem about the choice someone make to kill themselves for whatever reason we will not fully understand because we do not know their state of mind at the time.

Blessings Sandra nad thank you so much for your excellent review and rating. It's true we can never fully understand but for sure, they must not be in a proper state of mind to do this. My point was that we all have our issues, but the choices we make to resolve those issues, if they don't include the grace of God, can make the difference between life and death.

I don't know what to say. Really. The back story is so harsh. The poem is so vivid with death. The ending is so sad. The theme is so true. Your work here is So great. Well done.

Thank you so much Vanna for you six star rating and review. I purpose never to write about such harsh realities of life, unless I have a redeeming counterpoint to make. I tried to make that point as well in this work but felt I needed to add to that point in my author notes, so the reader would know where I was coming from. God bless you and thank you for taking the time to read.

Your explanation really helped pull everything together. I'm not a fan of reading about death nor suicide. Feel for your family's loss! Like how you tied all together with the colors. Good work!

Blessings Diana and thank you for your excellent review and rating. I shared that example in my author notes, and scripture to show that although such tragedy is a reality of life, we can overcome that and more by the empowering gift of God's grace. grace of God.

Blessings Amanda, Thank you for the 5 star rating and excellent review. It's always good to hear someone was touched deeply by your work, that is after all what most poets aspire to. But I pray you read the author notes, because I want everyone to understand that no one has go the way of suicide, they just need to accept the grace of God and choose life.

You have presented us with a very graphic personal tragedy here - you have constructed the scene skilfully.
"Breath, love, and God's Grace are truly the only things we need (and food). All of which are achieved by active decisions of acceptance and participation. We can end our own breath, just as the unfortunate subject has done here, probably due to a lack of love received, but also because he was unable to project love outward, or else he would have realised how loved he could be... and always would be in God's eyes. I would NEVER commit suicide, so I am not one who would think my life might take a parrallel course, but I do feel so heavy-hearted that someone could miss recognising the Grace of God.
(The only hesitation I have as far as responding to the contest prompt requirement is that you have mentioned several colours - blue, green, grey, violet - and my understanding is that ONE colour and its variations could be used.)

Thank you LisaMay for your excellent review and rating. I thought the same thing about using multiple colors, but they were not specific about just one and said it could be on any topic. Praise God, it is what it is and still a good poem with a good message, I believe. God bless you and thank you much :)

This is an outstanding "color" poem for the contest. Your illustration is very interesting and pairs well. I salute the skill you display in this poem. I am far from being a poet myself; but not only do I see your talent, I can understand the words as well--often as a novice, I cannot do both.

Thank You so much for this six star rating and your encouraging words. I know what you mean, about not being able to understand another poets' writing sometimes, but speaking from my own experience in both reading and writing poetry, sometimes the best poems are the ones you really don't understand fully but still, they leave an impression in your heart that you can truly treasure. I urge you to continue in your own writing and encourage you to look into my portfolio at other things I've written, and other poets that you like as well. When I first started writing poetry, I would look to the classics that I liked and learned from them. It took a while before I actually felt confident enough to write my own poetry and still today, I see much room for improvement. God bless you and keep writing! Sorry , I forgot this was a blind contest, feel free to look into my portfolio after the contest when my name will be revealed. Thanks again, God bless.

This sent goosebumps down my spine. It is so powerfully phrased, with great presentation and picture. My heart went out for the poor man who went against God and took his own life. What drove him to it? What inner demons crept inside his soul and were eating him alive? We'll never know.

You posed a lot of question.

Finally, there were those, hardly a few - some like me, others like you
Who merely bowed their heads, inhaling deeply
And when their own shoes came to view
A telling sigh betrayed their silent cry
There, but for the grace of God, go I.

I love this.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments and excellent review. I struggled with the thought of leaving - "some like me, others like you" out of it, but I wanted to draw the reader in and make it a personal thing because salvation by Grace is a personal thing but in the end, everyone who comes to look upon "him-himself" is left with the decision of either receiving or denying themselves this awesome gift of God.
