How did I miss this?? I thought I was a fan of yours, I'll double check. I loved this, Mike! I'm so pleased I have two more parts to read now. This Miss Billie, I think she might be a ghost, but I'll wait and see. That house sounds gorgeous, I could do things with that. Well done, my friend!! :)) Sandra xxxx

What a wonderful story. I love hearing about the old days as my children or grandkids would call it. And the character in the story is a bit independent or self employed on her property. She lives off the land.

This is well written and I am glad you added Miss Billie as it really makes it interesting--solid Ole Soul that she is. Your illustration, of course is perfect. This is nicely done.

I like how you displayed the suttle sarcasm and light humor. I like where it's going, and i look forward to reading what's next. The only thing i might so differently myself would be the " legally trespassing"...they kinda work against each other since trespassing isn't legal..but that's just me...lol thanks for sharing and good luck to you Mike.

I like how you put together this image of the old house with character and the character of miss Billie. The house sets up meeting her in the yard with her shotgun, stand offish and wary but slowly warming up to you. The story seems to reveal itself in layers like an onion peeled back little by little. Very subtle. Very down to earth. There's a perseverence here, a faith, a tenacity to Billie. Even though she is abandoned like her house, the visions you have of family hanging out on the porch enjoying coffee or sharing the kitchen seem to heark back to happier times in her life. Something in the bedrock of it. And something of that giving her the strength and hope to carry on. estory

This story is really intriguing. You sound a lot like me and a friend of mine. I guarantee we would be the kind to go up that road to take pictures of that house. She is braver than, I and she had gotten us into some crazy messes going down pig trails to take pictures. We're both are into photographing things like this, but I'm the only one who writes and I've thought of weaving stories around some of the photographs. I love what you are doing here, but if this in 2020, the lady would be 107 instead of 97 and even that is too old for her to be doing all that work until she's superhuman.

I'm looking forward to reading more about your discovery of this lovely old farm-house. I always have a camera with me too and find deserted buildings really fascinating. Thanks for an interesting read.

This is a lovely, well written story that I am anxious to follow. I, too, love old houses and their history. I collect old Thai stuff that is fast disappearing.
