Nice play on words, Yvette... mask till Fall. Sigh, the world is changing so. It's like being in quicksand and the harder you try to pull out the deeper you go. I.e. this all sucks the energy out of you. So, take a deep masked breath and hold on. All my best, Loren

Sorry for the delay, Loren -- getting a house ready for market (downsizing!) is a lot of work! ugh. but don't you let go of your energy: just stand out on your front porch and give them all the middle finger! Don't watch TV and maybe plant a late summer garden -- watching things grow does wonders for the heart (and soul!).... ;) :) Just a bit of nutty advice from the crazy blonde. :) :) Thanx for the review, wonderful friend, and have a great weekend! ;) Yvette

This work has reached the exceptional level

My heart hurts to read such a sorrowful lament -- I worry when it is written by a poet whose wonderful work was so often a delight, full of cheer and joie de vivre...

It is, nonetheless, a marvelous cinquain... Wishing you a hasty return to joy, my friend!

Much love,
Deborah Dawn

Oh my goodness, Dawn (or is it Deborah now?), thank you for the wonderful review and shining stars!! ;) No worries, I'm working through the 'sorrow' part well and I'm looking at light in the tunnel... ;) :) :)

Hello Yvette, my friend, how are you? I am surprised that inspite of the depth reflected in your poem, it didn't came across in the contest; I read all the entries and though that both your poem and Lisa May's should have been the toppers.

Doing okay but a bit crazier than usual, Kamran -- this downsizing thing is making me nuts! But the house is ALMOST ready - just in a holding pattern for the husband to finish the garage... :) :) Sorry for the delay -- hope to be into a more regular routine this week! ;) Hope this finds you well... Take care out there, sir! ;)

Hello dear friend, wit and scholar,
Some (most?) of the whispers in my life no longer reverberate - most died many a Fall ago. Where they go . . . I choose not to know.

LOL! You always know how to make me smile, mon battement de coeur - merci pour ca! ;) :) And I don't think they died, I think it's just that we're harder of hearing and don't notice them, yeah? :) :) :) You take care out there and I promise to try to get caught up this weekend (or at least by Monday) -- miss ya!! :) :) Yvette

This cinquain, On the Wind, has the right set up and seems to nod to the country's push back and COVID-19 PPE all occurring as we also see the government curdle before us.

A very well-written cinquain about the whisperscwho are choked in riots that make hearts hurt and their silent faces behind masks planned to continue until it is fall.

This certainly says what many of us are feeling in this difficult time. Your illustration, of course, pairs perfectly and sets the stage for your words. Nicely done.

I liked the abstract experessionist style of this piece, the fragmented nature of the imagery, that seems to be an amalgamation of the riots and social unrest and the masks of the epidemic all strewn across the same canvas. We get this sense of underlying tension, caught between the contrasts of shouting and silence. We are pulled in two different directions at once by this piece, growing tighter and tighter and more and more stretched until....the line snaps. estory

What a short heartfelt poem! It is easy to read and understand, and I felt the raw emotions all the way through. Wonderful! Best of luck in the contest!

Gossip can indeed cause hearts to break and rile our emotions, you managed to describe envy here in a subtle but hurtful way, much enjoyed, love Dolly x
