Threads pt. 3: Lost Arts
by estory

Hello my friend

Your beautiful poem brought some good memories to me. My mother was a seamstress and she also did embroidery. Great homage to them for the many hours of love craft.

Your poem is a beautiful homage to the lost art of homemade clothing, blankets etc, crafted with patient love: "these heart felt, hand made hand me downs." The items are full of stories.

A correction: seems (seams) and cuffs

Thanks so much for the excellent review and your wonderful comments supporting the story, as well as that specific mention of the line you liked best, that's always so helpful. I am glad the images brought to life this sense of love woven into the clothes on our backs. Yes, every piece tells its story. You got what i was trying to do. estory

The author's words are clear, interesting, descriptive and creative. I found
these words bringing back many memories of my Mom making my clothes and doing crafts for me - thank you. The poem flows and connects well.
Hope you are doing well.....

Thanks so much for the excellent review and your perspective on the poem. I am glad you enjoyed it and that it brought back the same memories for you as writing it did for me. So many times i took for granted my mother's love that displayed itself and all that work she did for us. Cooking. Cleaning. Sewing and knitting. estory

This lovely poem is about much more than the making of clothes. It speaks movingly and descriptively of the love instilled in each piece of apparel, of unity and and appreciation.

Thanks for the excellent review and your wonderful comments supporting the poem. Yes, you are right, the poem is really about love. Love woven into everything a mother makes for her child. Each scarf, each blanket tells its own story. estory

A very well-written poem about handcrafts that mothers used to clothes and keep their families warm. I do all those things still today for myself and others who like to purchase my efforts.

Beautiful as the others. Nostalgic, historical, recalling those-times-that-were. Our grandmothers knitting warm scarves and mittens for their grandchildren, The neighbor who came home one day, defeated, his job gone because the mill closed down...
Good writing again.

one typo: seams and cuffs. Not seems

Thanks so much for the excellent review and for your continued support of my poetry. I wanted to bring to light the love every mother weaves into the creations of her hands for her children. And I wanted to appreciate all the things my mother did for me that i took for granted for so long and get people to really look at these little things that end up becoming such a big part of our lives. estory.

I love this poem. It really tells a complete story that I can see. I see the mother's love and devotion to her family as she creates the clothing and blankets for them. Great alliterations here: "into these heart felt, hand made hand me downs." I think this was excellent. Great writing! -January L. :)

Thanks so much for the excellent review and your wonderful perspective on the poem. That's the second mention of that line about the heart felt hand made hand me downs, so I guess that was the best line of the poem. Nice to know what works and what doesn't. I also kind of liked that line about love folded into the seams and cuffs. estory

My mother taught me to embroider and to doneedlepoint when I was sixteen. Now I do only cross stitch. It is soon to be lost art unless mothers teach their children.

Thanks so much for the excellent review and your thoughts on the poem. Part of the poem I think is this sense of an art being lost, a craft disappearing into the past. And that is sad. Just like all those recipes that are being lost. I wanted to bring to light all these small things in life that end up becoming such big parts of our experience. estory
