Interesting choice for this contest, get drunk to forget and die, get drunk for fun:) but with what money? Those black label bottles are quiet expensive. No jokes aside I think you have a good entry here, thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest.

As a survivor of addiction, I hope a newbie true alcoholic never reads this because it most certainly may detain him from his sober path and cause him to feel there's no hope and drink again. This could very be called a trigger for someone, especially a newbie that just became sober.

Your contest entry is in good form, Mystery Author. You portrayed the alcoholic well til the very end. It is a sad situation that he is in at his own doing. I like his thoughts that you recorded. He sounds like he is sorry, but it is too late. Best wishes.

The writing is pretty stilted and awkward. In my opinion, first person writing should blur the line between reader and narrator; this story didn't feel like something anyone would say or think about themselves. Instead of directly saying some of the negative effects, imply them.

Hmph, yes, I can see alcohol can lead to an quick and painful death. I hope only adults can relate to this but I know from experience that is not so. What you have created is an excellent last letter to the world. It is dripping with sorrow and regret.
