Makes complete sense to me. You covered pretty much everything that's going on. People need to wake up if we are to survive. Eye opening poem, awesome!

I enjoyed reading the poem with its good meter and rhyme. I'm not sure I understand your meaning, though. Is it a satirical poke at Christians? A lot of what you've said is coming true, and it's a scary world these days. Miss seeing you in the forum, but I don't miss all the controversy there. Hope you are well.

Hi Yvonne, no it's not a poke at Christians. It's a poke at people who are obsessed with conspiracy theories and flat-out deniers of common sense truth (like the moon landing deniers and flat-earthers). It seems from what I see that many of those people seem to be people who use Christianity for political purposes, but I don't really get why there should be such a connection -- there never used to be in days gone by. I am very well, thanks, and hope the same is true for you :)

I hear a lot about conspiracies, too. It's hard to know what to believe these days. I am well and glad you are, too.
reply by the author on 04-Sep-2020
Agreed, Yvonne. Truth doesn't carry anywhere near as much weight as a titillating piece of nonsense in these crazy times. Until the world returns to sanity (as surely it must, one day), I vote for using common sense to decide if something is likely to be true, or bloated nonsense and empty rhetoric. We (as in humans in general) need to learn to think again, instead of just react.

CAN I GIVE YOU 7 STARS? WOW that was magnificent, you scratched every part of the takeover by the liberals. But wait, where was Leo (the earth is burning up) De Caprio. And what about Bobby DeNiro, thats odd two De's and both crazy. You are a digger, what I mean is, you go deep to get all those facts together. Thenyou present them so magnificently. I'm impressed!!!!!!!!

Craig, there a lot of truth in your poem and the end of days has never been clearer. I saw a sign today and my husband cimfirmed it because of my poor eyesight. "The United States is low on coins!" Since when? I could collect ten thousand dollars in coins in a heartbeat. This is the New World Order setting us up. We are moving to the cashless society described in the Bible and the mark of the Antichrist. It's all coming together so quickly. Everything. All we are missing is Jesus Christ calling up the believers in the air before the judgement falls. I hope you know Him personally.

Sending you my best today as always and best wishes for the contest,
Sal xo

Oh my! Did I just say I was going to have a happy day? I happen to believe that the whole world has gone crazy. That's what has gotten me down. My daughter cried for two days after her baby was born. I think it had a little to do with fears about the world she was bring him into.
Anyway. A few months ago, I actually thought that nothing could bring Trump down before the next election. Ironically, considering he's a germaphob, a deadly little germ may have done it. Then all the police brutality riots were added for good measure. I don't think they will have to call out the deadly locusts to plague and undo him.

No, his modus operandi of late appears to be to say or do the most stupid thing he can think of and then go into hiding for days until it all blows over. Hardly inspiring stuff from the man who wants another crack at ruining his country. The point of my satirical little piece was that the world is bad enough without all the idiotic conspiracy theories some people can't seem to get enough of.

I can't say I blame your daughter, Debbie. I'm not sure this is a world I'd want to be bringing anyone into. But hopefully, she may be creating a life that could help make it a better one.

Thanks for the thoughtful comments and the lovely shiny stars :)

Hi Craig, I peaked at your reviews before penning my own. You definitely pulled one over on many of your readers around here. The main reason I know this is satire is because I know a little of your belief system from my interactions with you, and the final quatrain is so hyperbolic I had to smile to myself. It's less hyperbole though than some of the things I've heard people say to me lately. You can't make this stuff up...until you have a platform on social media. (not funny) The construction of this write is sophisticated and the acerbic wit is great. I hope you are doing well.

Hi Pam, I'd have been most disappointed, not to say astounded, if you'd taken me seriously. It never ceases to amaze me how people do, since subtlety is not one of my strong points. This was prompted by a discussion on social media which took a bizarre turn when, quite out of the blue, someone started with their Deep State theories. And, of course, Obama's name had to be thrown into the mix.

Thanks for the wonderful review. I am obscenely well, and I hope you are the same. After many weeks of forced abandonment, our little ukulele group is able to start up again tomorrow, and that makes me very happy. Cheers - Craig

Hi Craig, You are most welcome. I am glad to hear you are doing well. You play the ukelele? My father does too. I've heard it's a tough instrument to master. I tried to learn guitar and I struggled for many years. I am hanging in there. Lock down has been tough, but there are much worse fates than gardening and working online all day. I do feel blessed to have my health and something fruitful to do every day.

I suspect mastering the uke is difficult. I'm certainly nowhere near being in any danger of finding out, but I love to play at my mediocre level. One advantage it does have is that, at the most basic level it's very easy to get started. When new beginners join our group, I tell them to expect to leave an hour and a half later knowing how to play three or four songs. I've been playing guitar for nearly 50 years, but uke only about four or so. It's definitely an advantage if you've played guitar.. and two less strings to worry about! Perhaps you should consider giving it a shot? :)

Hi Craig, I really would love to learn to play any instrument. My problem is time is limited these days. It's definitely on my bucket list.

A very well-written poem that should wake up most people who think it is all well with the lies they eating for sweet cake, and never think about being deceived with all the dramatics. You must have read my thoughts about all the things going on around us.

One of the best poems I've seen to meld poetic structure with message. Your rhyme and meter is excellent, while hammering your point with artful conflation of biblical phrasing and dimwit conspiracies.

And thanks for citing several of the many fantasies currently in vogue. You went the extra mile.

Jon

I obviously am not this paranoid, but I love how well written this is. It seems like satire to me. Thanks for sharing this with us. It's great. You deserve the 6.
