This was so nice to read. My last dog was upwards of twenty years ago and I still tear up when I think of him. I'm so glad you were able to experience that special bond. Good luck in the contest. Cheers.

Looking at the picture yuou choose it reminds me that I have a precious pet exactly like that, that I rescued from a family that got divorced and each of them was seeing the puppy as the enemy. Unfortunately a few month later somebody broke into my yard and stole her. She was one of the best puppy I had. Now going back to your story I really like this passage, because it brings a different perspective in how we see the world around us. "She leaps into the sea of grasses, disappears, and then suddenly bounds upward like a dolphin arcing out of her salty waters.
' Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest.

Writer with your descriptive writing you and your beloved have quite the hit and steamy love affair. Might I add, quite intimidating to my experience to my present love affair with my hubby. Lol. I love the story and it has a heartwarming feel to it. I enjoyed the read. Thanks for sharing

This is spendid! You kept me reading the whole time, and I really liked it!
My sister has a puppy, and he follows her around everywhere, and when your Beloved licks your face in the morning reminds me of my sister's puppy. Great job!

Ciao mystery poet. I gave you your third vote!
Your entry stood way out from the crowd ..
Your first two paragraphs are beautiful ..
your narrative captured my heart .. You had me fretting too and then so relieved when you said you pried the door open .. I screamed Yesss ..
What a traumatic ordeal .. I'm not surprised it took her months to put that terrible experience behind her ..
Yes they do get over excited ( like jelly beans) and squeal when they know its time for their walk ... their noses are stuck to the ground in the hope to sniff a new scent..
...leaps into the sea of grasses, then suddenly bounds upward like a dolphin ... loved this part too.
I wish you and your Bella many happy years to come.

Great story of heroic rescue and the development of a lifelong friendship as a result. What a remarkable bond develops between man and dog with a bit of kindness.

Foxina, what a darling name for a dog! I love how you told the story. Calling it a prison break, and how your dog;s trust had to grow from the mistreatment she had received, It;s obvious the affection is mutual.
