I really understood this because I love women in hats. There's something very cool about them. Having the hat reflect the passing of time was a brilliant move as well. Good luck in the contest. Cheers.

Wow...that was very good! It reminds me of memories I have of loved ones, and to treasure those moments, those memories, even if it's something as simple as a hat they wore. Very good indeed!

Vivid descriptors created a wonderful picture of the woman, first in her prime, and later as she has aged. Though it happens to us all, it is always sad to see someone whom we knew and admired, slowed by the passing of time. Reading this left me wanting more. Great job!

Wow nice and short and straight to her Grace -
I long for the time when she walked whole...and I tried to imitate grace...
Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest.

What a lovely picture you've of a woman we'd all like to imitate. Your descriptions were very vivid, and I could see her at her best, and then when you saw her later, and she had changed. Good entry for the contest. Good luck.

I understood your meaning of 'compass.' 8-)

Thank you Barbara for liking my story. Actually, it was about 300 words, I had to compress it to 102 words. I am glad her soul stayed in the ink.

The hat is so lovely, it helped my imagination on how beautiful the Lady is. Her carriage alone must be worth imitating. Well done writer. I enjoyed it.

This is a very poignant flash story. Your description of the lady you admire is wonderful and then you tug at our heartstrings as you see her years later - so changed. The last line is perfect.

Loved this - it's so poetic and I could imagine this graceful lady that you wanted to imitate. I had to pause at:
"Her long, blue dress floated in her

compass, and a magnolia scent flavored the air." (I didn't know why there was a blank line in the middle of the sentence. And I had to look up the secondary meaning of compass to understand you meant the perimeter around her. Maybe it's just me that thinks of the navigational instrument but you might consider another word there.) Best wishes in the contest!!

This was a very nice entry into the true story flash contest. I liked your vivid descriptions and the comparison about when the woman was older. Very well illustrated!
