The title really grabbed my attention. I'm thinking your protagonist didn't really step into the house, that it was just a memory of times past. Okay, I just re-read the last two paragraphs and you do make it clear. Very nicely written. Hugs, Lou

Those years seem so long ago, yet I remember them as if it were yesterday. Neighbours would come to borrow a cup of sugar, that was the first thing I thought of when I read your title. People were there whenever you needed them. Times long gone, and they are more longed for in these days of disquiet and virus. I enjoyed your ramble through those lovely times. One correction I would make is that you have written "step in" in the fifth paragraph, and then "stepping in" in the sixth, and this sounds somewhat repetitive. However, this could be used for an effect, and in that case, could still be kept!
