So did he die? The last stanza made it seem as though he did. The poem is supposed to have ending rhymes, you kind of stretch that with seven ending rhymes. I conted 40 lines way over the max of 22.The expression is lock and load not load and lock. Good luck in the contest.

So did he die? Read it! I'm satisfied with the end rhymes. 40 lines? 20! Lock and load" Hmm! How can you load after you lock?? I see you haven't entered the contest yet. If you do . . . Good luck!

This is one of the most moving poems I've ever read. You have really captured the spirit of a soldier in the midst of battle and the thoughts that are on his mind. I read your profile about your father, and I offer my condolences to you, and I would like to thank him with all my heart for his service and for making the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you for sharing this poem.

I love the fervor and blatant patriotism in this terrific entry for the War and History poem. Damn the torpedoes! God bless these heroes from every war fought for American freedoms. Thanks for sharing. Good luck in the contest.

This is a well written rhyming war poem and love letter to a soldier's wife. The Viet Nam war was a turbulent and scary time for America. The gift young people give every day of their service to our country is to be honored for certain. Respect for those men and women who put their fellow citizens in such high regard. I am glad to have had an opportunity to read this.

A very well-written rhyming poem about the good and bad about war and the people involved in the war goes with physical as well as emotional pain untile the soldier returns home alive or dead.

I read this post a few times. It evoked many memories; both from the far and recent past. God Bless all our military. This piece was well done and certainly seems to fit the criteria for the contest. Best of luck, stay safe and God Bless.

This is an apt entry to the contest .The personal feelings of soldiers are well portrayed and you have successfully conveyed their deep despair. The rhyme scheme fits perfectly with the theme,This I think should be a winner.

This is a very skillfully-written, vividly-descriptive, deeply meaningful and moving poem. You have conveyed a powerful message about the courage and concerns of soldiers on foreign soil surrounded by the enemy.

This is a meaningful poem and being we have Memorial Day at the end of the month, I find it as a wonderful tribute to the many forces that fight for our freedom. But are you referring to the book that you and Cathy are writing?

We can look at this COVID-19 the same way, the heroes are out there protecting us. Just so happen today is day we are suppose to honor the nurses. The Green Berets were a special force, one to be proud of.
In this crisis the military stepped right in. It is awesome to hear how things are going along, like 1,2, 3.
I have a story titled "I Was Just Thinking" about the virus, if you have time read it. I didn't go into illustrations or personal info. because it hasn't effected me that we but a friend of mind in Texas loss her husband on a cruise due to this virus. This is called to me the unseen enemy.
You have your required lines, it rhymes and good luck with your poem on war and history.
