It is right to remind us of that horrible war and what the conditions were that the men and women, fighting, had to endure. I could never fathom the tortuous conditions that these soldiers were sent to face. It was a monstrous war! Many questions still unanswered.

Beautiful work, commando, and it got my vote in the contest. You really express the feelings of this soldier. Your use of sounds adds color and sense of urgency. The narrator has to focus on the battle as well as his thoughts of wife and child. Great stanza encouraging the men to give their all and the will win. Excellent rhyme in this, including your use of internal rhyme like "side by side with tons of pride." Although the war wasn't popular back home, the soldiers did their best and deserved to be honored. judi

Excellent. It gave me a real feeling of war raging, and the emotional thoughts that go through a soldiers mind. We owe a debt to all who fought in all the wars throughout our history...in defense of our country.
