This is a wonderful poem, Therese, and so very sad. Thank you for being so caring of your residents and doing your best to keep their spirits up. God bless all of you for the compassion shown to them. Hugs and take care of yourself, too. Marilyn

Thank you so much Marilyn. I love those people, even the mean ones because they don?t even know what they are saying or doing. That is the problem, trying to reassure and distract does not often work due to mental status. Thank you for your compassion.

I know. A couple of my girlfriends are CNAs and they are very kind.

This is extremely sad.
I am particularly moved by
"Some feel we're turning their families away
Others feel loved ones no longer care"
it demonstrates so clearly the unhappy misunderstanding at all levels.

Yes, and the sadness of Alzheimer?s. Some of these people are in their 90s, and beg us to call their parents to pick them up. They are used to everything being a certain way, and the world is upside down.

The author's words are heartfelt, sad, clear and creative. I pondered
on the words and theme of this poem. It is so sad. The poem flows
and connects well. I pray that this virus will end.
May you be well and safe.....

Thank you for such a lovely review. I pray also. There is nothing else to do.

Thank you for reminding us of how much damage this virus has done psychologically, as well as physically. I feel so badly for those in nursing homes who don't understand the current need for distancing. Your piece is very timely and insightful.

This is just another sad and heart breaking development of this insidious disease. Sadly there is nothing more that we can do at this point in time. We just have to place our trust in those who are charged with keeping as many of us as safe as humanly possible. Great poem.

You have said it all in a nutshell. Thank you for the kind review.

How sad this poem is. I can understand the message because a lot of residents of these homes are suffering from dementia and are not in the moment or just cannot understand.

Exactly. That is the chief problem. It is so sad. Thank you for the review.

I certainly hope this restriction lifts very soon - this is almost in human to keep relatives from visiting. It breaks my heart - My mom was in such a place and it would have been horrible not to go see her.
Good job

It is very sad, but it seems to be the only way to keep them alive. Thanks so much for reviewing.

Hi Therese, It is happening all over the world. Nursing homes are the most vulnerable, and, of course, a lot of old people can't understand what is going on. It must be so hard to work there right now. You've written a very heartfelt poem. Warm regards. Ulla:)))

This one made me cry. It is very well-written and moving, and it conveys a powerful message about how this terror can indirectly be a cause of death. Loneliness and depression, as you say, can kill.

Oh, Therese... That's so heartbreaking! Your message is just so clear that I'm practically in tears... My mom was in one a couple of times, to recover from a fractured hip. You know how easy that can be when you're old... once she did it sitting on the couch, she missed and sat partly on the arm... that was apparently enough to fracture her hip. Boy was she mad!!! lol, She didn't like being there and we were in all the time! I can't imagine what it's like for people whose families just drop them off and don't come back in the first place, but now this for the people who have families that love them. I wonder that none of them come to the windows and say hello. :(

They do come and say hello, but the residents just cry and cry. It is beyond heartbreaking. Thank you for your lovely review.
