Well Done, a lovely topical poem highlighting such this awful situation we find ourselves in. Liked the line 'before the virus sneaks through the cracks. I used to visit an old lady in a care home, she died recently and I hadn't been able to see her for some weeks. There were three mourners at her funeral, I was able to 'watch' the service via a camera link, sitting at home alone. So sad.

That is so sad. We are in lockdown and no visitors are allowed. But if someone is dying, we do let the families in. Very frightening for all involved.

I wish I had six stars to award this beautifully poignant write. It saddest for those who cant understand it, and will interpret it in some heartbreaking way. It makes me want to hug them, every one. Thanks for sharing.

This poem is capturing what is going on right now. It makes me sad to think about what is going on, but this is a really good poem! Congratulations and good job!

In my opinion, a sadly important write, in plaintive narration, describing a tragic part of this devastating illness, that of deprivation of loved ones in one's senior and requisite times. I thank our Almighty Father I dwell in my own apartment and do not require the services of a nursing home - my heartfelt compassion for those who must and do. With your permission, I suggest changing the word "can't" in the 2nd stanza, 4th line to "cannot," for a smoother rhyming line and evening out the blank spaces above and below the poem, for a more finished piece (my opinion)...

I had cannot first, because contractions are always my second choice, but when I read it out loud with cannot it just did not flow for me. I am still working on meter. Thank you for the advice and for the review!

Outstanding Therese. This emotionally-charged poetry tells many stories of so many of our loved ones and how the virus has affected their lives as well as ours. God bless you and yours. :) Bob

What a wonderful poem about nursing homes. I can imagine working conditions will be very personal when it comes to each resident. I love working with elderly people. I'm sure some never really understand. Love your poem.

Thank you, and you are right, some are incapable of understanding. We just do our best every day. Thank you for the lovely review and for the six stars!

How sad this is. I worked my whole nursing career with geriatrics in the nursing home. I can imagine how the residents feel. Those that can see the news and understand are one thing (even they feel the void in their lives since they're loved ones can't come to visit). The residents with dementia are the saddest victims because they don't understand when you explain to them that their families aren't allowed in. They feel broken and sad! Let's pray this is over soon so our older generation can see their loved ones again soon.

Thank you for your understanding. Those that do understand are so sweet - they worry about us! The others are scared, angry, confused, so many emotions. I just work and pray. Thank you for this review that hit the nail on the head. Terry

Thank you for sharing this well written poem, obviously words from the heart. Blessings to you and all who work in these homes. Must be quite depressing, thankfully you are there for them in their moment of need. Take care of yourself too. Covid-19 seems to be hitting nursing homes especially hard right now. God bless and stay safe. Carol

Thank you Carol. It is very depressing and emotionally draining, but I would not leave those people for anything (even the mean ones!) because I love them all. They are scared, sad, angry, confused. I pray for them every night. Thank you so much for your understanding. Terry

This is a very touching poem about the Covid-19 pandemic currently going on throughout the world. Your use of rhymes is very good in of itself, however I might suggest two things. From what I have been told by some on here, there is no need for capitalizations for every new line you make in the stanzas unless there is a period and you should put commas, semi colons or periods at some of these lines before the end of your stanza. For instance you said "Nursing home residents can't understand why their families have ceased to come in" would be better with a period. Reading aloud is a really good strategy to improving writing and making sure punctuation hits the spot. The reason is because you want to allow the reader to hit pausing points to digest the material being presented. Nonetheless, great poem!

I found that in another line, but when I read it out loud it worked for me so I left it. I have to learn about punctuation, which in prose and even reading, I am a pro at, but not when I write poetry! Thank you for the hints and the compliments. Stay healthy!
