Congratulations on placing first with this remarkable sonnet. (Not at all surprising, really) I thoroughly enjoyed it, and also the author notes. Very clever, you are! I actually learned some interesting things reading your notes. Thanks for sharing this fun sonnet.

Thanks, Adonna. Let's see if it serves me well as practice for the site sonnet contest, though I suspect yours has a happier ending than my rather gloomy piece.

Thanks, Julia - much appreciated.
PS I think your Caps Lock is on and your 'A' key is stuck down!

No - it was just a way of filling up the requirement, I'm afraid! They wouldn't let me post till I had a certain number of characters.

We all have our tricks. Copying and pasting a couple of lines from the poem works well, or adding 'Good luck in the contest.' to every review!

Well done with this Petrarchan sonnet, you've shown you have a great sense of humour, and can actually write a real live Petrarchan sonnet in the process, Witten as the Swedish group ABBA would write the first 8 lines, And rest cde cde, well done, good luck, blessings Roy

Comment from Tim Noble
Brilliant idea to write a Petrarchan sonnet about Petrarch and his influence on all the great poets of the past, and how it should be so easy to emulate them - so that you only get around to picking up your pen in the last six lines and barely even then. The rhymes and rhythm are excellent too. I wish I had thought of this. [When Oscar Wilde said this in company about somebody else's witticism, Whistler said to him: "Don't worry, Oscar. You will.]

Many thanks, Tim - glad you enjoyed this enough to bestow that extra star!
The way I heard it, you have the Wilde anecdote the wrong way round. He was renowned for his witty and pithy remarks and after a particularly brilliant zinger, one of the fawning acolytes said "I wish I'd said that!' and it was Oscar himself who said, "You will, you will."

How I enjoyed this Petrarchan sonnet! The fun, the precision, the information, the examples of other sonnet-writers... For me, it all ends up toward a winning contest poem.
Congratulations! (and I don't think it easy at all to write)

loved it.

This is a very clever sonnet that made me laugh. You've sort of poked fun at the whole process of writing a sonnet and mastered the rules for getting it done yourself. You names a lot of famous sonnet writers in the process.

Thanks, Beth. I do try not to take things too seriously for the most part. I'm glad I made you laugh.

Lovely! You've written so well! You well executed within the laid out rules for the contest. One quick one: you may want to replace the folk in the second line with ''folks'' since the statement is in the plural phase. Apart from this, you're good to go. My very best wishes!

Thanks for the review and the kind words. I believe you will find that 'folk' is a collective noun, so can be treated as plural. In usage it would be identical to the word 'people'.
Comment from January L'Angelle
This is a very cute poem. It tells a lot about what a "Petrarchan sonnet" is. I was confused and now I think that I know a lot better because of your poem. Thanks for that! Respectfully, -January L.
