This is a very beautiful poem to honor your mother on Mother's Day. It's a fine entry for the contest. I think your word choices point out the relevance of your mother's presence in your life. Marilyn

Thank you, Marilyn!
So pleased you enjoyed.
My children knew her mostly during the years when she was very ill... It's important for me for them to know that she was far more than her illnesses...
Thank you!

Seen through your eyes, I think your children will understand that.

Those painful fading days are so well encapsulated in "bits and pieces of memory's reawakened moments". As in other poems, your description of everyday details brings this writing to life. You create some poignant word pictures. This poem exudes love and has the garden teetering between reality and metaphor. Another lovely poem. Congratulations.

Good Morning, Tony,
I am honored by your exceptional rating and your perceptive review.
I definitely had a plethora of images/experiences from which to choose...
My mother was such a dynamic and creative individual. She suffered nearly a decade from the effects of Parkinson's disease, dementia, and the debilitating effects of losing my father and her beloved home. It is important for me to keep her memory alive...
Thank you again!

I think your poem is a wonderful tribute to your mother. One of the saddest things in life is to say goodbye to one of your loved ones. Yet, even in the absence of their physical presence, smallest thing such as smell of a flower or a freshly backed blueberry cobbler can create the sense of their presence in mind. Infact, I think smell is the strongest component that can evoke the memories.
Good luck!

Beautiful poem; you always know all the right words to say. This mother's day poem is packed with feeling and warmth and everything a mother can be praised for. The line that stood out is, "I shared her mindfulness," and imperfect Christmas tree adorned with twinkling white lights--because I love Christmas, :0)) The returning of your Mom at times is real I believe as often I feel people of the past with me too; she never really left and this poem makes that real in our hearts. I'm sorry for your loss and hope you have found great peace in this. Exceptional work

Hello Ross!
What a lovely review!
I am honored by your exceptional rating and thoughtful review.
So very pleased my words resonated with you.
Those "imperfect Christmas trees" usually housed an abandoned bird's nest as well. To this day, if our tree doesn't have one, I nestle an artificial one among the boughs...
You are correct, Ross: my mom has really never left...
Thank you ever so much!
Hoping you are safe and well...

Oh my, Mrs. KT.
You have done it again!! This is such a lovely heartfelt tribute poem for your mother. I totally agree with not needing a holiday to celebrate your memory of your mother or me mine. The flowers in both photos are so pretty, especially in that beautiful cobalt vase. I love that you can still feel her presence and even see her smile, even with her being gone since 2007. This is an exceptional poem written by you for your mother. Easy... no errors. The flow of this poem is an easy read. I simply love it. Good job. Happy reading:-)

Hello Joyce!
How my mother loved flowers. I would have replied to you sooner, but my husband and I were outside, spreading mulch. And I was filling two huge pots with potted daffodils ...just to bring some color to our northern Michigan porch.
So very pleased my offering resonated with you!
Thank you for your exceptional rating and thoughtful review.
Hoping you are safe and well!
Take Care!

Sorry, already out of the six stars, although you earned them with this beautiful Mother's Day contest entry. I loved the careful, beautiful wording, the formatting of the text, the nostalgic, loving tone of adoration for your mother...I liked this poem very much and suppose it will win the contest.

This is a wonderful poem. Such vivid descriptions which help communicate your ideas and it is so heartfelt. It very creatively brings together the emotion and the effective writing, and when the two work together I think thats the whole point of poetry, and this has achieved that really well.

In my opinion, one of the loveliest Mother's Day tributes it has been my pleasure to read and appreciate - in beautifully lyrical and smoothly flowing free verse, capturing both the emotional expression and union of a loving daughter. narrated exquisitely. Interestingly, my own mother's favorite flower was also lilies of the valley. This is a poem for the ages and most certainly deserves to win the contest...
