Oh, this one actually tugs at your desire to 'make it right again' ... :) :) Here in America, I think that not having the ancient history of civilizations that have come before, we have a certain fondness for things that won't be coming back. Whereas folks over in Europe have entire lives built over civilizations and empires that came before... :) :) A beautiful lamentation yet tribute to progress - thanx for sharing, Yvonne! ;) Yvette

A very expressive destitute tableau presented here of this once vibrant town, now decayed, but for the cemetery. It is both touching and forlorn. An enjoyable example for the Fabulous Free Verse Club.

Excellent take on the subject of ghosts. Ghost towns hold a fascination. I live near where there was a lot of coal mining, and one of them, Diamond, has hardly a building left. Judson, where my grandparents lived, is almost a ghost town now. Several of the buildings have burned or been deserted for years. You do a great job of some of the things that vanished with the town, like the school house. It is interesting that the cemetery remains, so the people who once lived there won't be forgotten. Beautiful free verse. judi

Thank you. It's the town where my father was born. I still own the old 'homestead' there, but it's too remote to live there anymore. And there's hardly anything close.

The railroad ran through this town, too. When it was rerouted, the sawmills closed down.

It's the town where he was born. The family cemetery is still there and is taken care of. Thanks so much for reviewing.

Hello Yvonne. Interestingly enough, there are a few small abandoned villages around this area. There's little more left than a frame that used to have a house sitting on it. 100 years ago it was probably an important stopover.

So true, Yvonne. I hadn't thought of the cemeteries being well kept but they are. The towns fell apart and decayed but someone still cares for those who once lived there. Marilyn
