oooh.... I recognise this emotion, the mix of distress, feelings of loss and rage at the unfairness. I like the wet steel (definitely worth repeating) and the too red roses.
I cared for my father for several years until he died... alzheimers. My sympathy to you Marjon, your emotional pain was probably even more intense with a husband in that situation.

Hello, this is a very telling work, and you really do write it like it is, and I appreciated that frank honesty about grief and loss. Very apt poem for the prompt and good luck with it. I am sorry for your loss. My Grandmother died of that, well she actually died of pneumonia before the Alzheimer's, but she had it and it was dreadfully hard to deal with, especially for her ten children.
And then the grief that follows ...
I have no suggestions for improvement and I hope you find solace in your writing, which can be so cathartic at times.

Yes this is such a powerful poem. The struggle between loving who he was and who he has become. I can't even imagine how this feels. My husband has epilepsy and struggles with moods. I can only imagine what you went through being so much worse. Great job and good luck
