You are right. There are studies that show that happiness from pleasures spent on self is very short-lived but the joy from helping others is long-lasting.

I agree - looking beyond ourselves is important for our own persona, as well as for the good it brings to others.

A very well-written poem and a positive attitude is much more fruitful than we can ever imagine. Our lives are normally do busy we can't get to do the things we love, why not take this opportunity to do the things we always wished we have time for.

Thanks for your review, Sandra. (I've been slow in responding because I am writing so much - this lockdown has triggered so many emotions and observations.)

I've decided to write to a 90-year-old that I usually only contact at Christmas. I thought it might cheer her up although she is probably more resilient than many I know.

That's a nice idea that I'm sure she will appreciate. That generation has been through a lot and can teach us a thing or two about resilience and stoicism.

Well said. Sentiments shared by many these days. I like inline rhymes deflated/berate and spin within. Clever twist on don't call me, I'll call you--usually intended as a brush-off vs a reach-out. Cheers (?) LIZ

Hello Lisa!
Your words resonate with me as I clearly have felt the need to reach out to others. I am, by nature, gregarious. But I have found these past months challenging for many of my friends have drawn inward...I respect that, but I keep plugging away...just checking on them...
Wise words!
Happy Easter despite the circumstances!

Hi Diane - we need people like you!
I am by nature more withdrawn, enjoying the peace and quiet of getting on with my own thoughts and activities. (I am not antisocial, in fact I am involved on the committees of a couple of major societies.) It has felt like, at times, I have been 'pestered' by phone calls when I am concentrating on something, but that is just people keeping in touch to see if all is ok, so I do actually appreciate it. I am sure your friends do too. xx

That was a fun poem. Well thought out and clearly written. Creative too. We must stay home for the good of ourselves. But yes, we can help others and remember God too. Nice work.
Happy Good Friday :)

Thanks for your remarks. Easter good wishes to you, too.

This is a poem that reminds me and other readers to try to be better at sharing with others. If one doesn't have family members around, this is perhaps even more pertinent. I like the implied metaphor of the bubble and deflating oneself. Nice free verse post.

It took a while for you to lift your spirits, LisaMay. It is worth the wait to read your lines to free the soul and call on your muse to lighten up and smile even if it is forced. :) Smile woman, what we can do we will do even if we are in chains. We are all free2dream. Take care and make people smile with your words and your beautiful heart.

Thanks for your words to remind me to lift my spirits. There is still a lot to be grateful for, I know, and the world is still a beautiful place, when it is not trying to kill us.

Absolutely - good poem to point this out - who out there is worse off than you are - who needs encouragement - who needs cheering - who needs hope - Our hope is in Jesus Christ - mine is - God hasn't deserted us - He seeks our companionship.

I don't think people are becoming selfish by staying at home. If anything, folks might be becoming a little paranoid. I don't even think that's the right word. People are trying to be cautious - it's not just for our personal health, it's for the health of our communities. Hugs, Lou
