Politicians appear to be from a different planet where morals, scruples and interest in the welfare of people are unheard of. They do harmful things and try to explain and convince people they did it in the interest of the country. You have a valid question. People have elected them and so it is important that they are kept in check. Thanks for sharing!

Of course we have our shortcomings, but they pale in comparison to those of powerful people who cause terrible harm to everyone, and even lecture on frequent occasions.

I like the message in this free-verse poem Al. It seems you have been taught good morals and proper care for your possessions and have learned there are consequences for bad behavior and carelessness, yet we see our nation's leaders lie and deceive and not value our country the way they should and it is distressing, to say the least. There are some elected officials in Washington right now who seem to have no morals at all. They should not be leaders, in my opinion. Thank you for setting my brain in motion. Now I need to unwind a bit. I thoroughly enjoyed your poem, and thank you for letting me review. I've been here over ten years now. I guess that makes me eligible. ;") MM

I've been here since 2007. Alas my portfolio was lost. Making a come-back. Gonna pour ink from my heart blended with a sense of humor. Don't look to enter many contests. Freedom is my choice. Hello. Exceptionally penned and as a prior military guy, even I have to agree with you. Our civil liberties slowly being taken away, we loose our freedom as we are yielding to terrorists, the real terrorists being equal to the ones that took it all away to begin with. That's just my opinion of course. Cheers.

I would have to agree with this frustration. We learn morals, but then are at the mercy of wrong decisions made by our "leaders." We don't need to yield to immorality, but it seems that it is happening more and more.

It is a nice read. I love to read poetry, not sure I always understand it though, but I think that is the nature of poetry. For me, it seems to be a criticism of our leaders today. I'm on board with that. Where have all the honorable leaders gone.

Technically, your piece is right on the mark.
The topic is what intrigues me. As you so aptly point out, real leaders seem in short supply. Perhaps the people will lead the leaders.

I dont even know who are leaders are now n days but i do see a massive amount of losses in our country to make us question...
