I loved this little story. Any story about a dog is a good story. Hopefully we will get through these difficult times soon, and maybe with help from some unexpected places we can.

Thank you for the review, Lance. You know, I think people are already having to look for help in many places. We are also learning to try new things.
Take care,
Rhonda

Hello Rhonda,
Congratulations of the first place finish!
Some wise and calm advice in those fifty words.
Trixie is a lot smarter and more helpful
than certain people in Washington that will remain nameless.
Sounds like your grandmother was a smart woman, too.
Great picture to match the poem.
Well done, my friend
Stay safe.

Thank you for the wonderful 6 stars, Robert.
As you know, I prefer writing lots of words, haha, thus a novelist, but I couldn?t help going for a challenge.
Trixie was smart and protective.
I?d like to think my Grandma was smart, DNA link and all, but I do know she was resourceful, and raising 6 kids on the prairie, she had to use everything she had.
I guess you cab say they were practicing Social Distancing out on the farm before it was popular.
Take care and safe safe!

Thank you, Mike. I?ve been taking a long break from writing, though I?ve been back on the site off and on, so I was glad to have produced anything at all.
Take care,
Rhonda

-The picture is a good one, Rhonda.
-I appreciate your author notes.
-A well written story that's
hard to do in 50 words,
but you deserved the win.
-You start out with a good hook.
-The story he tells is written
very well, and makes us
wonder about this babysitter.
-It does sound like he likes
to tell stories, too.
-The ending is good,
and shows how a message
can apply to different times,
no matter how far apart.
-Well done!

Thank you for the review, Pam! My dad was the source of all my writing genes. He always guided us through life?s problems with stories.
-
You are very welcome, Rhonda, and thanks for sharing about your dad. That had to be very special growing up. You could start sharing some of those stories; I think they would go over well.
-
That?s a wonderful idea. I?ve always considered my dad my muse. To kick my imagination back in gear, focusing on his stories, those I can remember, would be a great start.
The Daredevil Girls started with him...
-
It is wonderful that you have your dad to remember that way. That is really interesting about the DDG! He must have had an incredible imagination. That would be a good story how he was the inspiration for that.
-
It is definitely a good story. I?ve mentioned it before in a poem or something, but before I start posting my next DDG book, I?ll tell it again. Good point.
-
That sounds like a good starting point:)

This is wonderful. I have had four pit bulls. They are fantastic dogs and have a bum rap. Best of luck in the contest with this nice flash fiction. Marilyn

Now, Marilyn, this is a blind contest...
Thanks for your lively review. My dad always said Pit Bulls were made to work, which Trixie did out in West Texas on their cotton farm. He said they only got mean when they were brought into the city and tied up.
-
I have updated my review. Best of luck in it with this nice write.
-
Thank you, Dear!!
-
Sorry to have overlooked.
-
No problem. The voting is over now, anyway. I tied for first.
-
Hi Rhonda. I'm so happy for you. Marilyn

Thank you!!

Such a sweet story, brightening these dark times. I love the idea of a pooch babysitter, and wish I'd grown up with a dog. Best of luck in the contest.

Thank you so much for your review. My father has many fond stories of that dog.

This fifty-word story, Old Trixie, has the proper word count and is a terrific story to bond the kids together and share with all of us out here in stay-put land.

Thank you so much, Bill. I appreciate your time and effort to review! I found it more difficult than I thought to express myself in fifty words, hehe.

Many years ago we stayed on a farm for a break. Our son was 18 months old and into everything. The farmer took Philip out into the garden and told his sheep dog to mind him. He was amazing, when Philip tried to get out of the garden, the dog pulled him back. I really wanted to take that dog home with us! lol. Your story brought back that lovely memory, and I had to smile at the image of Trixie laying across your father to stop him getting out of the circle. Lovely story, and a winner in my mind for the contest. Good luck! I'm going to vote now. :)) Sandra xx

Thank you so much, Sandra. What a lovely review! I?m glad you were able to connect with it. Thanks, as well, for sharing your own story. It?s the first I?ve heard of anyone else with a similar experience. My father told many tales of Trixie throughout his years.
-
You got my vote, and you're in the lead. I'm rooting for you!!
-
Thank you ever so much, Sandra. What a wonderful gift!!!

You are most welcome. xx

Ciao mystery poet ..I gave you your 5th well-deserved vote...
I really enjoyed this entry.
I remember my grandmother telling me that she could leave my mamma ( born in the Hague..Holland in 1935) in the pram outside ...their German Shepard would guard her against curious people or any possible danger..
Those prams were very big and heavy in those days so not to have to drag them in was a blessing.
Thank you for sharing a family story and for the hope you instill in your closing paragraph...
I truly hope you win the contest!

Awww, thank you for the vote and the warm hearted review. I love the story about your own mother being protected by the family dog. What wonderful love and instincts they must have.
I?m glad you got the point in the ending as well. I tried to think what advice my father would have given if he were still alive. He always told stories when he had something important to say.
Again, much thanks. You are too kind.
