not sure about missing any part of a form, but I see read and feel fine form, great flow and cadence, beautiful true and near rhymes,
but
the poem and the word imagery and the characterization and the picture perfect journey is spell binding
I found myself reading faster and faster on the ride home and almost gott rained on at the door
thank you for sharing
p.s.
I like your profile "Einstein" quote very much as well

    Hi smileycloud,
How delightful to open up FS and see an unexpected review, and a six on top of that. Your words are so kind. I wasn't following any prescribed form so it is just what happened as a wrote.
I am so happy to hear you got into the story and enjoyed riding along.
Thanks again. You really brightened my day.

Sounds to me like you are in Colorado? Mention of the Aspens? and
your ride sounds exciting, though I know you were glad to get home.
Now, to your poem - I loved the easy flow of rhyme and meter, telling your story and building suspense. Muy bueno!! Mucho gusto! :)

    Hi poem lover,
Thank you for the encouraging review and kind comments about the writing. I am in Utah, which is next to Colorado, which is also in the Rocky Mountains so we have some of the same plants. I did enjoy the ride, but, yes, I was happy to make it to the stable before the rain.

Debi,

Oooohhh... I really like this style of poem, Debi. I don't know what it is, but that repeating bit at the end of each stanza appeals to me very much. *smile* I may have to try that sometime!

But I'm glad you and your horse had your fun AND stayed happy and dry. A lovely story in a poem. Thank you!

    Hi Robyn,
I wasn't going for any particular style, it just sort of happened as I was writing, but I am glad you liked it.
Yes, it ended up being an amazing day. I was so grateful to be dry at the end of it.
Thank you so much for the encouraging comments.

Oh, I loved this poem with a story told within and a true one as a bonus. I've had several horses in my time and I know exactly what you're saying. It's no place to be in the saddle when a thunderstorm arrives. I'm glad you both made it home in time. Your lovely poem was a joy to read. Ulla:)))

    Hi Ulla,
Thank you for the wonderful review. It is good to hear from someone who knows the danger of being on horseback in a storm. So glad you enjoyed it.

I REALLY like this poem. It appeals to me in all respects. It tells a charming, appealing story, and the rhyming and metrical patterns are sustained throughout. Nothing sounds forced; the flow is natural.

Hello Debi,
You've written a marvelous poem that gallops along
imitating the the pace of the horse and rider as the
storm clouds gather and soon burst open.
One can feel the initial joy of the ride followed by increasing
anxiety. The rhyme and smooth meter both work to enhance
the situation and the repeat refrain "my horse and I" is very effective.
Whew! Glad to be safe inside the stable.
Great photograph and presentation.
Well done
Robert

Hello Debi, this is so well written, and reading your author notes I see it is biographical. How lovely to go out riding on your horse. I've only ever been on a donkey as a child at the seaside. LOL! Your rhyme and rhythm are perfect and you tell the story in perfect detail. The repeated line at the end of each stanza is very effective. A rather nice choice of picture with the lowering sky. Although, as you say, it was meant to be a Cascade, nevertheless your display is lovely. Warm regards Dorothy x

    Hi Dorothy,
Thank you for the lovely review. I bet your ride on the donkey was fun. Nothing beats galloping across the ground on a horse though. I can understand why artists paint horses with wings because it feels like flying. I appreciate the encouraging comments about the writing.

In my opinion, an exceptional poem, beautifully written in its illustrative and flawless rhyming rhythm. I was with you as you both hurried home to shelter and as relieved as you and your horse to miss the deluge. I could relate, because I too have been out and about and arrived home only seconds before a downpour. I wasn't riding a horse, however, but partnered with esteemed horsepower in my vehicle...
