There is no more loyal a friend than a good dog. Many times I have stated four-legged barkers make better people than most two-legged species could ever hope to. This story once improves me right. Should make an interesting entry into this contest.

This hit home for me as I have a "furry family" and recently lost one. This was a good story full of emotion. Wishing you good luck in the contest.

Dogs (all animals, I think, but especially dogs) seem to latch on to a owner and suddenly the pet/owner relationship is somehow reversed.

Enjoyed the read.

Best of luck with the Flash Fiction contest.

A very well-written heartfelt sad flash fiction about the dog who were loved and left alone when his caregiver dies. Until it was the dog's time to die he lived a lonely life and followed his mistress into death.

A very good flash fiction story. I love dogs so the story struck home. A poignant story about the love between a person and a dog. I loved it. Good luck with the contest.

Hello Tpa,
Nice piece of General Fiction as Flash Fiction having lucid wording, smooth flow throughout from the beginning to the end, and beautifully depicting the dog's natural attachment with cookie.
Best of Luck!

Quite a sad piece! I assume it is fiction? I hope so. Dogs often get attached to owners remarkably fast and become part of the family instantly. One suggestion, maybe change the picture to an image of the actual breed you are referencing in the poem.

My daughter in law works with an animal shelter. When itis full she takes
the overflow home with her. She has three large dogs that she won't part with. She traveled over two hundred miles to pick up a litter of eight puppies and the mother dog. She has cats and kittens also. She spends her weekends in front of a local national pet store showing animals ready for adoption. The local animal shelter depends on her a lot and she never
says no. Animals can be very loving.
