Of I don't think men worry anywhere near as much and the dear fairer sex, but I have noticed that I'm becoming more invisible, (positively transparent) to the younger generations, heh heh, always love your writing, your perspective is beautifully unique Liz, blessings Roy

Thanks for stopping by, Roy. This piece was written four years ago. I'll be 66 next month. During the Reign of Corona, when the salons were closed, I let my preternaturally red (i.e. magenta) hair go silver. As to Diane Keaton, some suspect she finally caved.

Love it! You have captured the enigma really well. In the end who cares about age? (Speaking to myself here, as I have yet another birthday coming very soon, and I am considerably older than you are).
Your photo here is a lovely one, and you don't look your age, but even if you did, what does it matter? Good for Diane Keaton. She's a strong and sensible woman. I think some of those who have all that work done end up looking unnatural and ridiculous.
And I wear what I like, generally what is comfortable and suits me. Mostly jeans and tee-shirts. And you should be able to wear whatyou like too, and if young styles and bright colours are your thing, go for it!
The topic of "getting work done" is a pertinent one, and unfortunately it is mostly directed at women who seem to be a bit insecure re ageing. Men are just counted as "distinguished" or such. Love the wit and humour in your writing.

Don't get me going on the double-standard for men! Actually, do get me going--perhaps I will write on the subject if I can think of anything that hasn't been said on the tired theme. As for my looking younger--thanks!--photos don't show my many wrinkles--many people take me as younger--but only until they see my face!--on account of my colorful age-inappropriate clothes. Thanks for these reflections on aging and hooray for Diane Keaton for not pretending. I honestly can't bear to see little old ladies with dyed jet black hair. No one is going to think they are younger. But you have fashion chic and good athletic energy and that keeps you looking young!

I love it. Five for your brilliant alliterative sentences. Plus 1 for your descriptions.

But behind the sequined curtain in Emerald City stands a simple someone, with sagging somethings (we all know what things).

and

Stubbornly wrinkled Diane.

More than funny. You made a good point.

It's a great piece. I am saving it! Nice number. Beautiful head of hair! It looks like you silvered early.

Yea, getting old sucks and I'm not sure how graceful the journey can actually be.

Still there of gifts that come with age. Wisdom, awareness, financial stability (usually) and respect in most societies.

I enjoyed your first story. This line made me crack up:

when she bemoaned the hands of Diane the betrayer.

Very well done. Thank you for sharing.

hi..
oh yes, I love Keaton...
And i loved Hepburn, she got old and shakey and was still such a great woman...
I am getting old, I still wear the same thing I have all my life, jeans, t shirts and plaid shirts...I like skater clothes because they are comfortable and I could give a flying sh** what any one thinks of me...old id just a pain in the knees and back..I refuse to give money to the beauty industry and be held ransome by the winkles I have that have proved I lived through crap and survived...oh geez.....now that's my two cents worth....

good write this one of yours!

Hello again, loyal fan! Stop by anytime. Always a pleasure. (Two cents worth? OUCH! Is that what you got paid to read this piece?)
reply by padumachitta on 20-Dec-2020
Ha ha .. no my 2cents worth...was my long rambling... but I laughed at the double meaning

I'm relieved to know that you were paid for reading--once the 4-day promotion ends (tomorrow?) the piece is pulled from the active roster and you get paid just two cents if you go to the portfolio to read it!
reply by padumachitta on 20-Dec-2020
I often read for 2 cents...some of the best stuff is never promoted... and some of the ah... questionable is paid up to top spot. I?ve read some great 2 cent pieces!

Likewise. Re the top spot: To quote LisaMay cream rises, as does scum.

I'm going to be honest here(it's a damning trait of mine, as is aging), I would have never guessed your true again by your profile. I literally thought you were in your forties! There are subtle hints in this story showing that you do know that you do not "look your age." I am in the opposite side of the spectrum, always guessed to be older than my actual age, which I have loathed but cannot really change. At some point, you chuck it in the #%}^ it bucket and move on! I do wish you would have mentioned the double standard, men aging gracefully. I am very pleased I took the time to read....as I sit here aging not so gracefully. I love how your writing deposits your readers into your mind for a moment!

I can sure relate to these musings, Liz. My hair started turning grey at a fairly young age and I coloured it. I was often mistaken for someone many years younger, even thought to be an older sister to my daughter, or a daughter to my older sister. When I decided to just be who I am, my mother told me I was too young to have grey hair! My response, "If I were too young, I wouldn't have it!"

You again! Who knows if Diane is still holding out--the interview was three years ago--she's 74 now. Thanks for stopping by. Cheers. LIZ

My hair is a preternatural shade of red (aka fuchsia). It doesn't make me look younger, just more outlandish

Oh, the pages one could write about aging. This look at age and the "sagging things" and that darn "emerald curtain" is cleverly written. I laughed in spite of myself. And Diane Keaton is amazing - I applaud her embracing her age - but it is her spirit and spunk that impress me the most.

My mom once said "You can get away with getting old as long as you keep your figure." I would add to that your posture.
Wearing fashionable clothes and dying your hair helps too. I say hurrah for Diane. Still, I bet she spends a fortune on cosmetics the promise to work on the wrinkles.
