This is pure grief of a mother who died. No two children of hers will grieve in the same way or with the same intensity. Grief is very personal. Some can come to terms easier than others. Some even die if grief. Grief is an intense emotion as seen in this poem.

A very well-written free verse poem about the loss of a mother that touch us deeper than we think. Each little thing we have of them reminds us of the absence in our hearts.

What a wonderful photo of you mum in her green jacket. How beautiful she was and so brave to travel all the way to Australia when she was in her eighties. I'm sorry that you and your sister have your differences. I liked your free verse poem, and good luck. Ulla:)))

Thank you Ulla, your review was so lovely. I appreciate your words a great deal. My sister didn't speak to me for months after hanging up on me. I feel God just wanted me to pray and forgive and at christmas she sent me a gift. So now we speak sometimes and I change the subject if it gets difficult. xo

I'm glad that you have at least found some common ground. It's a start, and I'm sure your mum would have said the same. xx

This is heartfelt and sent a shiver down my spine, I know those feelings and your love for your Mother is evident in every word and you did a wonderful thing by posting the jacket to your sister, when siblings suffer grief like this it always causes tension and the love for your sister is here in your sweet words, much enjoyed Laura, love Dolly x

A sad, sad poem and quite a tribute to the memory of your mother, may she rest in peace!
You may have your differences with your sister but you are right to focus on what brings you together! The sadness that you know she too shall feel and the way she would try to take a whiff of that remaining essence of hers!
A really well thought out and nicely penned, free verse poem! Best wishes for the contest!

This is too sad to be anything but true. Sibling relationships are difficult, and you have done a good job of outlining the opposing emotions that can be operational in the relationship.

Oh, Laura, this one brought tears to my eyes as I read through it... just beautiful in word and in emotion... I would only suggest, perhaps, utilizing another format for your presentation as the centering really is distracting to try and follow and you may be losing some of your emotional impact. I am not a free verse poet and I've tried to give you an idea of what I'm talking about below. However, I would refer you to the poet on here 'ciliverde' -- she is a master of this form. Take a look at some of her works and you'll see what I'm talking about... I love this, though, so don't you dare think otherwise!! ;)
And with respect to your little sister... my relationship with mine is the same... it happens in families, I suppose. We love them and know we'd be there for each other if called to be...
Take care and good luck, my lady!! Yvette

I feel sad today
I hugged your light green jacket
Tightly
I cried my eyes out
I tried to feel some essence of you

My sister (your youngest) asked for it when you died

We bought it together, you and me
Was when you visited
It was rainproof
matched your eyes

Four years ago,
I wasn't ready to let go
I wanted it
No, I needed it

Hi Yvette, thanks for your helpful review. There were four of us 3 girls and a boy. my older sister died suddenly two years ago. We were close. The younger one has different values and remembers things from her perspective which can seem self centered and materialistic but she is getting a little better and I pick my battles so we can at least talk sometimes lol. Have a great night.

A very moving piece. I can relate to having that one article that belonged to someone whom we loved. You put your love into the jacket as you mailed it to your sister. Bless you!

Now you got me on this one! Very emotional piece of writing. Reminds me so much about my late dad. It's a pity we can never have our lost loved ones back! But we can always do our very best to keep their very wonderful memories anew in our hearts. I have painted a portrait of my late dad into my heart. This is a ob well-done. good-luck in the contest.
