Good morning, Liz

Your post sent a chill down my spine as I read it. Made me wonder if it was a depiction of my own life... sad but true. Not everything is what it appears to be and the meaning of "family" is chipping away at society with each upcoming generation. Our morning Christmas traditions have been tossed to the wayside this year because my daughter wants to sleep in, have their time and show up for dinner whenever they get there ... oh yeah and get the gifts. Times are changing!

Smiles and hugs, Carol

Nice to see you back, Carol. I had a blast conjuring this cast of characters! Lest you be concerned I disrespected a grieving family-I assure you that Sandra and company are products of my twisted imagination.

OMG! Liz, that made me so angry, I wanted to go and thump all those people and write a story giving them lives of hell, pain, and torture, and anything else gruesome I can come up with. That there actually might be (I'm totally sure there is) families around the world, like this, makes me even angrier. Right, now that you've started my day off on a delightful high, and set me off to be 'Granny Avenger' in the New Year, I'm off to cook my breakfast now!!!!! LOL! I miss your writing, Liz, COME BACK! Love and hugs, and have a wonderful Christmas, and fabulous 2023. :)) Sandra xxx

Oh God ! How I miss you in Fanstory! This gave me a much needed laughter on a pain ridden day. Glowing eulogies and obituaries ! Reality behind is so vast...

Satirical and funny and very true. Was just thinking the other day how very ordinary people are made out to be the most amazing ones who ever walked the earth after their passing, especially if they die young or prematurely. Yours shows the reality (perhaps ever so slightly exaggerated! Lol) of everyday life. Cleverly done and very astute.

Thursday? So out of sixes! This is so funny!

I have sat at funerals after reading a "glowing" obit and listened to eulogies that, by comparison would make Mother Teresa look like "Bonnie" of "Clyde" fame...

Obits seem to be "sanitized for our protection.". God forbid we realize most other families are as dysfunctional as our own!

(P.S. My mom's sister seems to be related by love of jewelry to Marlene!)

Glad I got a " Liz Fix" tonight!

A++++++

(Do you mean it the other way around--eulogies make Bonnie look like Mother Teresa?)

Welcome back. Haha. Isn't real life more interesting than the official obituary? This is funny and the second one is much more believable. But the first one is one that will be published in the paper. Where are you planning to publish the second one?

Well done.

Haha, your satire was on mark, Liz. The obituary and the truthsaying that followed it, provided great contrast. The obit was puke-worthy while the heartier description left me glad I didn't have to clean it up. Good to have you back for a visit, Liz. I'm going to start the New Year right by submitting some things to Medium and get back to making a few shekels.

Honestly, I am glad that this is just a humorous freaking, fictional obituary that would never be published in a newspaper or elsewhere. I am sure that if someone would write up an obit of this caliber they would be fired by the owner (newspaper) and the family of the deceased.

This is funny but also sad in equal measure because it's so true. I think many living people will relate to this. I used to have to write obits back in my so-called journalism days and it's a thankless task. This piece really works as humor but underneath the laughter is a lot of tears. Good job.

Thank you Dana! I had fun with this, though there is indeed darkness amidst the light side.

This work has reached the exceptional level

There is something wicked in you that when it floats up to the top is sheer genius. I enjoyed this as sometimes behind the curtain, there is the real truth of the family dynamics. While the obit shows the "loving" family and long happy marriage. It may be that death brought the deceased freedom.
Very well done.

Regards and Happy New Year
Mary
