Very well written! We should remember to honor them every day. My father, my uncle, my son, and my brother all served in the military and all of them came home alive! Praise God!
God bless I[

Your poem is so heartfelt and touching. Your final line "we are all free because of those who served and were brave." is one we should all remember, no matter which war it was.

Comment from Raffaelina Lowcock
You present the sentiment so very well in your poem. It is to be taken to one's heart. The tragedy is not just the life that is lost but the others who have lost them. Think of a mother, a wife, a sister, brother, father, etc. all grieving that colossal loss. What a tragic dilemma we have been through with these many wars, especially this 19-year-old one and the chaos in the Middle East. Enough!

Your poem is a fine tribute to the thousands of men (and women, I'm sure you meant) who lost their lives in warfare, while serving America.

Wow, I can't imagine a more touching tribute to those who served, some who gave their all, their lives. So many lives, so many 'rivers', so many wars. Thank you and good luck in the contest.
