Thanks for the giggles. I feel like how you played with our imagination. It felt like you did a verbal version of a trompe l'oeil work of art. First we see a 60-something man and he grows younger and then older again!

I wish wearing a hat made a difference to me, I wear a fedora when entertaining, playing guitar and singing to younger, I only wear it to show how "cool" I am, my grandkids soon put me in my place. Beautifully written Liz, I found this super, excellent work, blessings, Roy

Come on Elizabeth. Don't be mean. Some of us old farts with shiny pates need to wear a cap to keep our heads warm since we don't have any insulation--on top, that is. Of course living in cowboy country helps with the etiquette factor. Have to have something to tip to the ladies....

You're the master of bringing loads of emotion from deep within to the surface. I think this was a great articulation of perception, and how deceiving perceptions can be, how far from reality they can take us. As you jump to all kinds of conclusions based on appearances, we see the high contrast at the end between where you placed him in your mind and where he is in real life. Chocked full of personality too, your writing. estory

i had never heard of 'hat envy' before. This was a funny funy story! I loved the ending!!!
"That hat-wearing, hair-hiding, age-defying, six-packing son-of-a-bitch must be 60-something after all!" What a great last line!!!

Ha, ha, ha very funny Liz. In Romania, if boys are wearing hats when they are with a lady it's considered to be a luck of education. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings.

I remember when it was accepted that no hats were worn while eating. That quickly faded away. I enjoyed your story, Liz. You characterize Dave well. I could see him doing everything you wrote. Apparently, he wasn't bothered at all by wearing his hat all the time. I like the way you expressed how it made him look older then younger then . . .showing the grans' pictures was a great detail.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

A very well-written story about a ladies man who seems to hide some thing beneath his cap and when he finally removes the cap it was not what anyone suspected.

This was a really great short story about a jealous narrator. I was actually rooting for Dave lol, the story teller just seemed very petty. #Hater as the kids would say XD Great work, later daze.

Yes, I was taught to always remove my hat when indoors. But there have always been, and always will be rebels. 1930s Gangsters with the ever-present fedoras--and the gumshoes who trailed them. Today's gangstas in their straight-billed ball caps, with price-tags a-dangling. And what about Jewish men?
Funny, I bought a new-old newsboy cap last winter. Didn't make me look a day under ancient.
Fun post.
Peace, Lee
