Fantastic poem. Very sweet. It tugs at the reader's heart strings. So many of us experience regret at not treating our loved ones better. I have regrets about my mom. There are so many things I want to say and do with her--now she's gone. In the narrators' case, it's her father. A very touching and beautiful work. Good luck and Happy Easter.

You captured the feelings well of the daughter not knowing and believing things would have been different. Your lines flow smoothly with good rhymes and great imagery. Your words are poignant and expresses the thoughts of the one who found the letters well. Thanks for sharing. Respectfully, Jan

This is a poignant and touching piece that captures the bittersweet memories of a relationship that was always strong. But she never knew how strong until she read his letters from the heart. Now the bond is even deeper -even though her dad is gone.

What a heart-felt flowing of love and compassion you have completed in these verses.

Too many times, the life of a soldier is misunderstood by those who love them- through no actual fault of thier own- nor of teh soldiers.

So many feelings and experiences that needed to be released, yet the words just don't flow.

Well done!

Best of luck in the Rhyming Poem contest.

Beautifully written poem of precious memories although with regrets. But hindsight is twenty-twenty as your title implies, If Only. I've found the best thing to do with good memories is to remember them forever, but all the others - forgive and forget. That's what truly sets us free. God bless you.

GypsyMoonCat,

I love the way the daughter realizes truths about her dad she never knew. It was too late to change anything, but she missed him, his Princess Boo. I loved your rhymes and rhythm throughout.

Beautiful!

Just one minor catch:

of misconceptions keeping us apart -
the time we lost! (this part doesn't have the great rhythm the rest of your poem has.

I enjoyed reading this well written poem that expresses the heartfelt sorrow of a daughter dealing with very painful memories involving her father. Thanks for sharing your creativity in this story within a poem. Bill

This is a powerful poem, well written and from the heart. Regret is such a difficult emotion to come to terms with, once grief has subsided it is still there to be dealt with. This poem shows that struggle. Well done.

That was an amazing, poem, and if it's not a winner, I'll be very surprised. I could feel that little girls pain in all the lines. You covered everything in this poem, the happiness and sadness, the laughter and tears, the anger, the depression, the breakup of her parents, the coming around to talk it all out. Brilliant, only sorry I can't give you a six. But I can wish you the very best of luck in the contest! :)) Sandra xx
