I loved that story! I love cats, and in our previous home we had as many as twenty feral kittens at one time from four mothers. They were such fun. I can believe 'Charlotte' would have her kittens under the seat of the car, one of ours decided to have hers in the chimney of out outside BBQ and oven. lol. We couldn't cook there for weeks! This was a cute story that kept my interest throughout the plot until the happy conclusion. You have did a nice job using the first line to create a story. I almost suspected that it would have a sad ending with the discovery of Charlie's body. I too have had several cats with a gender mix-up (Daisy was a tom cat, Luigi is now Ouija.)

That's the first time I've heard about a cat's spots determined the sex of the creature. What a wonderfully written story from childhood. This is one of the calmer entries in the Charlie contest.

Funny story and just the opposite of mine. My stepdaughter used to raise Persians and gave one to my son as a college graduation gift. SHE was so beautiful. I crocheted little fluffy boas for her to wear and everyone fussed over how pretty SHE was.....until she started having a feminine hygiene problem, which needed a "sanitary shave." I took my 10 and 11 year old step granddaughters with me and one of them pointed out that she was a he! It was really hard for us to get used to this "forced crossdresser" being a male. My stepdaughter pled innocent since He had so much hair, she couldn't tell. I'm glad Charlotte is a happy mom.

This is a really good and engaging story. Since I'm an animal person, then, I would have done an inspection when the cat became my cat. That would explain Charlotte's strange behavior and her desire to be close to the car. I've discovered that even when you have a little dislike for an animals behavior, they know it. They may then try to win you over. I enjoyed reading this well written work. Well done!

The way to tell a cat's gender is to inspect its anus. Now, I don't know if it was because Charlie came into our lives in the early 1960s and my folks just took the word of the attendant at the Humane Society, but one would think that given both were raised on farms, they would have known Charlie was really a "Charlotte!" None of us even noticed that Charlie was gaining weight-other than thinking he was really well-fed and fluffy. I think parents today are far more perceptive about pets today...I know I am!

Hello mystery writer. This is a very warm and comforting story how about Charlie. You're early narrative led me to believe that something bad happened to Charlie but as you progress through the story it became clear Charlie was beloved by the family.
