Reminds me of the poet Robert Burns, " The best laid schemes o' Mice an' Men --Gang aft agley" (or go awry). Vacations, even the best of them, are sometimes over-rated. At least it started well --you got out of the cold for a while and had a swim. And you discovered the wonderfulness of being back where you started.

Oh dear, the holiday from hell Laura, what a terrible shame this happened to you. Did they find out the cause in the end? Here in the Canary Islands we have something called Calima. These are sand storms where the sand from the Sahara desert clings to the cloud and fine sand is in the air. Tourists are often hospitalised because they cannot breathe. I have been ill a few times on holiday and all you want to do is return home to normality and be grateful for what you have and not wish to change things. I am glad you survived this trip and you are okay now, love Dolly x

Thank you for your kind words and review. They just said pneumonia and it is very damp when it rains and lung infections are common. The Canary Islands hope you are having a great time or do you live there?

Well the being sick and hospitalized in a foreign country would be a paperwork nightmare. I'm glad you were okay though. And everything did work out.

I'm so sorry to hear about your ordeal! What a terrible thing to be sick when abroad. It sounds like such a good idea to be at a warm place during the winter but considering the danger of getting something on the plane, it doesn't seem worth it. I hope all the insurance paperwork is complete. So glad that you had a good hospital experience. Thanks for letting us know about your trip and hope you recover quickly and completely.
