What a lovely tribute to your children's days on the court and your linked-up time in the stands. I hope you've found a happy medium in your empty nest-hood. Eventually, you'll get to enjoy such times again, just as a grandparent!

No empty nest. Three out of four kids still remain. And that's okay with me.

Hello GWHARGIS I read about your youngest son's last game.
I found was well written an I liked when you wrote
'I usually write young adult fiction. But things are changing. My world is fast becoming that of an empty nester.
I wish you luck in your transition and we will be reading about your son.

hello
ah, but soon, perhaps you will be writing young fiction for grandkids:-)
Seriously, transitions are never easy.
I too love basketball, played for college, though I am short, not a fast twicch fibre in my body, I was tenasious...my parents never watched me play. It has been a sorce of sadness my many years...
Thanks for sharing..

I enjoyed your story. Your lines read well with a great story to tell. It was easy to see how you came to love basketball and how you supported your sons. This was refreshing to read as lately the tv news shows parents fighting at their kids' games. You message at the end is so true and so important. Thanks for sharing. Respectfully, Jan

I still those netballing days of the girls, (we are the world champions) it's a game similar game to basketball, but generally only played by girls. Yes, we've already. Been through, then the grandkids give a large bounce, and you'll probably enjoy them more, a different love, without the anxiety. Bless you, Roy, great article, blessings, Roy

Ah, yes the empty nest stage may not be all that long. I suggest and it's just a suggestion is that you and if you have a partner, go somewhere, or take a class or do something totally new. Why? The kids will be in and out through college, or getting that job, or needing your help with something. There may be a wedding and some grandkids coming and before you know it a whole new cycle will begin. So, take a dance lesson, or an art class, or a trip to Timbuktu.

I vaguely remember how you must be feeling. I remember the same feeling when each of those things that once seemed as if they would last forever came to end. It is sad and I let a tear slip down when I realized this was the last time. Things end but something takes their place and the change isn't always a bad thing.

Hey old friend. So good seeing a familiar name back in the FS listings. This was an excellent read, just sorry the SIXES have run out till Sunday USA time. I am not sure how far you got in my autobiography before you disappeared? I am doling Rambles these days to add to the autobiography as one of the writers said if you keep adding stuff to your life story you will never finish the book. I was all ready to move on from here but someone wanted me to stay and sponsored me for another year.
