I promise... no more. It was a long day (and the cusp of early Spring...not good for me) when this contest came up and you know I love the shorties for the end of a day.... SORRY!! No more!! Take care out there and find your sunshine smile!! ;) :)

Good luck with this prompt. Most people never think of the mental suffering of the patient goes through. They are conflicted wanting to live and praying to die especially when they reach the hospice stage.

It's said that the dying keep themselves living for the living. My son, at age 39, had about two months to go with his terminal brain cancer, so said the doctor after his seven year struggle. Trains were an important memory for us. On my last visit with him, as he lay motionless, I noticed his train set on the windowsill that he was facing. I read a Shel Silverstein poem about trains to him, then said, to him' "There's the train, Ian. Go ahead and take the train." He passed away that night.

It must feel like being a prisoner of life, trapped in a painfilled body, unable to live the life you once enjoyed. Cancer has destroyed so many families, the carers give so much while trying to put up a positive front and it's not easy, and I think the patient can see right through us. My father was diagnosed on Thursday night died Tuesday morning. He said he saw the lady in the white shirt and no point to let it draw out. This is a creative way to wonder what it is we can accomplish when we want it to be the end or it is even if we don't want it to be. In some strange way I can relate. Good luck. xoxo Kiwi

Too sad, just way too sad because it is SO true (and so well-written). I just had grim news of a friend who's been battling for a very long time and now has had his cancer spread to his lungs -- stage four. I lost my sister to it, my maternal grandmother, and I am a cancer survivor.
So you know this resonates with me. Good luck in the contest. Excellent choice of title, BTW...

This is a well-written story for the prisoner story contest. Your choice of a prison being cancer is unique and clever. I have never had cancer, but I can imagine it would be like living in a prison of uncertainty. Great job! Thank you for sharing and have a wonderful day.
