I like the message conveyed in this. I think that when sickness and disease strikes, it's hard sometimes to appear strong for the ones who've always depended on you for strength. My father was the strongest man that I know. He had fortitude like no man that I've ever seen. He was dying of cancer and you'd never know it. The only outward signs were that he was losing weight. He didn't lose his hair. Thanks for sharing this well written work. Well done!

This sounds too realistic to be fiction. I certainly hope this story is not autobiographical. If so, I pray that you get an early reprieve from your pain and suffering.
When I think about the writing prompt, I cannot think of a worse prison sentence than being a prisoner of your own body. When your body turns on you, who can you trust. You can't even trust yourself.
Good luck in the competition. This should do well.

This is excellent. You've got a fine entry here for the contest and a good understanding of the topic you've written about. I know my husband felt this way when he was dying; very tired, wanting relief from it, and ready to go. Marilyn

PenPal: I can imagine the pain this guy feels with his health, treatments for cancer and his family. You grip us in his emotions. I see the wife being exhausted helping him. Nice photo choice. flylikeaneagle

Wish I had a six for this, it is so deserving. Life dishes out a lot of difficulties we just have to adjust to the best way we can. Thank you for sharing this, Mystery Writer!

It's sad that those kind of things come as a punch. They come on hard and unexpectedly. It sounds like he has a very strong wife. That's so sad but in many cases very true. People do things that they rather wouldn't, in the case of this story live in pain, to make others feel better.

This is just so sad. I hope it isn't true. It's very well-written in any case. The last line is a real eye opener on the prompt of "prisoner", and serves to remind us of the many applications of this word.

A very well-written heartfelt and thought-provoking poem. When we suffer constant pain we do not always see the purpose of our life and wish to let go, but we hold on to see our loved ones around although they are suffering too.

Hello Anon
A well constructed and written 100-word 'dash'. A sad case and a piece of writing which may resonate with many readers.
In passing, I think you have a typo here "...when really? I'm just..." I think the question mark should be a comma "...when really?, I'm just..."
I am also not too sure if chemo should perhaps be written with an apostrophe: chemo'
I wish you well with this piece
cheers
phill
I did count it and make it 100 words, by teh way.
