Charles is perfect in the part of the English fool. The trouble is he is not acting and has metaphorically paced his head in the lion's mouth. He reminds me somewhat of Richard Hannay in John Buchan's tales of Derring do or, to be more accurate, of Kenneth Moore's depiction of him in the 1959 film version. The perfect gentleman who can also be a tough guy should the plot require it.

I love that version of The Thirty-Nine Steps. Others have tried to better it without success. Perhaps I had Richard Hannay buried somewhere in my subconscious as I developed Charles's character.
Many thanks for the review and star shower. There may be fireworks to match it in the next chapter!

I start a new book tomorrow and behind the scenes get The Reluctant star ready for the assault on the publishers. I see your name in my inbox so I imagine that is another chapter.

This was, as usual, a great read. I am so glad I have a few of you great prose writers to keep me going amongst all the poets. No spags and looking forward to the next exciting chapter. Check my posts for today.

Very well written chapter this one! Full of suspense and a bit of action! I liked how you did your homework for describing the terrain and surroundings! Deodar and Juniper trees are certainly in abundance here all around the country! And of course, the AK-47 is the most common rifle in this region because of Kashmir! Keep writing Sir, as I an enjoying every chapter!

A very well-written chapter. In all the excitement and changing of clothes for a different appearance the briefcase and the key are left behind in haste to get to Kayla for assistance.

There are more questions than answers in this fast moving and suspenseful chapter. Who can Charles trust? Why is Kayla late? What will happen to the briefcase?
What will happen when the Lion replies to Kayla's demand?

Skillful writing, Tony.

Blessings Julia

Very many thanks for your review and the sparkling shower of stars, Julia. I hope to match them with the explosive action of the next chapter, when all will be revealed - or nearly all.

Another suspenseful chapter and things were looking so good until Charles' last misstep! I was so relieved that he found an ally but how will he get out of this situation - another cliffhanger ending!

Many thanks, Helen. Charles continues to lurch from one disaster to another. I hope he manages to survive the next chapter in this continuing saga!

I hope so, too. But you have much more say!
