Dovemarie, I first want to say, it was a complete privilege to read this piece. The most important aspect of my life, and after reading 'Heartbreak, Failure, and Success' I sense it is for you too, is our faith. We must guard it with all our heart!
I can relate to so many trials you have experienced., Loss of two cats I had for over 17 years. Losing an animal cuts deep.
We as Christians are not immune to trials and tribulations in this life. The apostle Saint Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 1:3, 'Blessed be God, even the Father our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
Who comforter us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God' gives us the grace our Lord Jesus Christ just when we need it!
I am publishing my memoir soon, Peace In The Midst Of Conflict' about my coming to terms with my faith in Christ as a gay man. What I will say is, God's gives grace. Sometimes His grace is so thick, you can almost touch it!

Wow, quite a trip down memory lane with ups and downs, all around...
I really liked the beginning, maybe you could have brought us full circle back to Sister Maria, since you said you pray to her everyday. But, I know it's a little more difficult with nonfiction.

I just read the impressive list of all your ups and downs over the last 20 years. Because the assignment was a nonfiction story this was spot on. But that is exactly what it is, a (probably accurate) list of your achievements or not quite achievements and moments of disappointment. I did not find much literary value or excitement reading it. I did not clearly felt your emotions, which was what I was looking for. I saw that quite a lot of your wishes and dreams came through in these twenty years and I congratulate you for that. Some set-backs too, but I miss your expressions of elation or disappointment in your story. Maybe, if you could find some words to bring these elements in it, the story would appeal more to me. For now, I give your story four stars. I'd love to make that five; maybe in the future! All the best in your interesting life.

You have certainly had a lot going on the last twenty years and you been able to write both the good and the bad. I'm happy to see you feel the good things has outweighed the bad. I think your contest entry might read better if you put an extra space separating what happened each year. Good luck in the contest.
