Wow, no wonder you won the contest. It is true that when war is far away it doesn't seem real. But when it is near and people we care about are in harm's way, we take it seriously.

Too many students (and many young adults!) that 'live' in their games and television have no idea of the 'real' war that many around our world actually live... Thank you for your wonderful review, W.J.!
Comment from Darlene Franklin
Oh, so true. It's been so long since we've had ongoing war on our mainland that we don't realize how awful it is. We're always fighting over there somewhere. Congrats on the win!

Your one - six - one poem says a lot in a very few words about the reality of war. U.S. has been "sheltered" for a very long time. I wish you luck in the contest.

You are most welcome, Yvette. I think most people are blind to that which does not directly affect them. Best wishes.

So well said in your 1-6-1 poem. You rhymed all three lines and it's so true that it doesn't really hit people as war unless it's on our own shore. Best wishes in the contest!

This 1-6-1, Sobering Reality, has the proper formatting and suggests that we don't take the crises in the world seriously, until it's our crisis as well.

This is very good and very true. There are bad people everywhere who seek to harm others who just want to go about their everyday lives. Best of luck in the contest. Marilyn

I remember that day so well. Like you say, television doesn't show it as well as being there does.
I like your use of the 1-6-1 poetry form. This is a powerful format to display a very real truth. I like the rhymes you chose. The picture brings home the reality of that infamous day. I agree with your author's notes which bring up that many people, all over the world, live in the shadow of war every day. Thank you for the sobering reminder. We must never forget.
Take care, Jesse

Most adults do - it changed a generation of parenting, I believe. But too many students (and may young adults!) that 'live' in their games and television have no idea of the real war that many around our world actually live... Thank you for your wonderful review, Jesse!

You're very welcome.
I believe a lot of people, young and old, tune out the real wars that are happening, in exchange for television, games, and social media.

A very well-written 1-6-1 poem about war that seems far from wherever we are but the day will come that it is a reality at our shore then we have to fight it.

This is so true.
It often seems unreal,
a commercial of sorts,
turn the channel.
A sad reflection on
humanity.
Wonderful observation
Miss Yvette,
Blessings...

I try to review everyone that reviews me, and when I got to your name (I keep a list) this is what I read...that's how I knew...I had to go to your profile. You are sadly right. Beautiful poem.

Wow, as always I am in awe how you can say so much by using so few words. This poem is so powerful and so true. I honestly don't know what else to say but that this is an awesome prompt entry.
