Good luck in the contest Yvette. I really enjoyed the colors you used, it was prominent and rather refreshing. It presented a sense of hope and determination. It truly represented the new year.

January splashes
Hope's sweet perfume
on New Year's ambitions
waiting to bloom
A strong piece using few words and done so nicely. Both suggesting a new begining

A very well-written twenty syllable poem with January splashes that bring hope of sweet perfume of new year's ambitions and resolutions waiting to become full blooms.

That it does, and that's for sure. :) I've never thought that I'd ever have any New Years' resolutions that were actually acquirable. Now I do... they've gotten a lot more simple with old age. Wake up in the morning and get down the stairs without killing myself... keep covered up when I want to at night... (Shawn's such a cover hog! and he denies it!!!) lol, You know... that kind of thing! LOL

I think simpler and more realistic and almost 'gotta do this', ya know?!! ;) And I look at January as bringing us the start of just about anything, if we look at it that way? so, here's to making plans and moving forward! ;-) Wishing you a Happy January full of planning, my Beautiful friend! ;) Yvette

The newness of January does provide hope. The imagery and language express that whatever one's resolutions are at the start of the New Year can indeed "bloom" into reality. Smooth, good flowing meter and personification.

Comment from Jesse James Doty
"This is lovely, and inspiring, as all get out. I love the presentation with the great image entitled "Splash," which is the operative word here in the poem. I love the first line, "January splashes." And the next line gives hope a "sweet smell" which is a wonderful metaphor for hope. And then the last two lines complete the wishful thought of our "ambitions waiting to bloom." Blooming ambition is another great metaphor, for how our aspirations can, and sometimes do, take flight and reach the skies. This can be read as one line, as well as four lines, the flow's smoothness makes that possible for me. Thank you for the positive, encouraging view of what the new year may bring.
Take care, Jesse

Hi Yvette.
It feels good to know my reviews affect you so positively. I've got new plans in the works already this month, and it's only the 11th of January. This is going to be a great year! Happy January to you, too.

I never thought of hope as having a scent before, but this poem points out a new possibility to the reader. Striking art choice. January's ambitions for the New Year will be suitably scented and inspired by hope. Nice share.
