This poem paints a picture with its words as well. I can see the wintery scene by listening to your words but the picture added to the vizual scene. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing.

Hi Diana. This is a beautifully composed poem and I like the comparison to ermine with the leaves visible through the snow. Yes your poem is centered perfectly, but I'm using my laptop. Best of luck in the contest. Marilyn

If one suggestion could be offered it would be eliminate the white space between the first two lines of the nonet. Captures its theme spot on and paints a clear image.

    Hello Brett,
Thank you for stopping by and your suggestion; however, there is no "white space between the first two lines of the nonet." Perhaps you were reading my offering on an iPhone? Would love to know...

Actually an iPad, and it shows a skipped line between the last word of the first line and the first word of the second line. I will double check on a computer to make sure the iPad is reading wrong and let you know what is discovered. Liked this contest entry a lot.

    Thank you, Brett!
On my iPhone, there is a space between "snowstorm" and "bright." How weird!
Thank you for bringing this to my attention; I am going to add a note on the Author's Notes to alert readers... Ah! Technology! :)

    Thank you!

No one else mentioned the "wonkiness," but one can never be sure!

Lovely Nonet! Your choice of words makes a rather simple form (one of my favorites) quite sophisticated and elegant! Certainly seasonally right on time for me as we've only just had our first snow fall! Your poetic painting is even clearer than your choice of photo!--Karenina

Yeah, that's the thing about a Canadian winter. I'm looking out the window at ten cm of new snow too. I spent yesterday shoveling it. It's doing a lot of damage to any trees that still have leaves. Good luck in the contest.

Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

The crimson autumnal leaves, falling from their petioles, become dead corpses and fertilizers as they are transformed into fertile soil and humus for future green crops...but this perfectly structural nonet describes throughout its beautiful flowing narrative storylined content, the slowly or violent falling movement of the colourfully leaves as they reach to the ground. Many times I, myself, have watched them spellbound behind my window sill. Great work and greetings from Italy

    Hello Alchera!
    Greetings from northern Michigan!
I am honored by your exceptional rating and thoughtful review.
I wrote this piece as I was sitting by the windows in our family room yesterday. We have experienced two major winter storms already, and another one - forecast to bring 9" - 12" this evening! Goodness! We never even had the chance to rake leaves before the cold weather hit!
So very pleased my words resonated with you!

I enjoyed the vocabulary used, Mrs. KT.

I guess sometimes we can associate something animal-like to weather and it will make sense huh?

Your poem - free verse really caught my attention with the use of the word mottled - not a word you will hear everyday. A great word in fact!

I really enjoyed the winter scene you serve to me.

I also would have envisioned something quite similar without your artwork or pictures added but those were great too! A nice accompaniment. Cheers, Fonda

The photo is breathtaking. It suits the nonet to a tee. This is well written and describes the poor autumn leaves, heaving, and moaning until, they lie buried, under ermine snow. Sounds sad and yet, it is part of nature, making its course through the seasons. I like the dramatic way you describe this event. The leaves take on human emotions as they brave and are burdened by, the sudden snowstorm. This was enjoyable to read and experience along with the fragile leaves.
Take care, Jesse

No worries as far as being behind on your reviews by me. I loved the emotions you gave the beleaguered leaves. You are so welcome for the review. Have a nice weekend.
