This is a very good story, Craig. Good detail and scene setting. It's written clearly so the reader gets the message. Don't know how you made out in the contest, but it's an excellent contender. Marilyn

This is a most imaginative post, reflecting the wise and wistfully wonderful and appropriate proverb, "be careful what you wish for..." as a lot of proverbs are probably based on scriptural proverbs, one stands out, and agrees wholeheartedly with your premise,
"The power of death and life are in the tongue, and those that love it will eat its fruit." Proverbs 18:22. Well done Craig, blessings, Roy

This is brilliant. I read and re-read this story a few times. Wow. Quite the imagination you have! I especially liked the "Thirty days has Sept..." This story is exceedingly unique and so clever. Good luck with the contest!

WOW! Very clever. Now he no longer exists. Got his wish, but probably regrets it, wherever he is. Is he a ghost, still tagging along with his family, or has he moved on to Eternity?

He's nowhere. Since he wished his birthday out of existence, he was never born :) Many thanks for the kind comments.

My God! he wanted to disappear and he did .That is halloween for you. it is a well written story and the suspense is there till end. Mother didn't realise that the boy is missing! all the best for the contest.

This is a great story and has a pretty good meaning behind it. We always think of the saying "Be careful what you wish for," but we don't usually take it seriously unless something actually happens. I think you certainly could have expanded upon the story, but overall, it's pretty good.

"Be Careful what You Wish For is a Horror Flash Fiction Contest Entry"
Rich in Theme and Imagery.
...
It read well and Flowed well with no Grammar Issues as well.
Adjective and Objective Contents were both Excellent and Exceptional while Descriptive Measures aligned Perfectly and good luck with this.

Lots of evocative images and concrete things. Even though this is not my favorite genre, you caught and sustained my interest and attention. My small suggestion: consider adding a sentence or two after your first sentence further clarifying who is holding his hand in a vice like grip and why. I'm pretty sure it's his mother, but would love if that was made super explicit at the top of the scene. Nice job!

Great contest entry. It reminds me of an Anthony Jezelnek joke. My grandmother died at my twleveth birthday party. They brought out the cake I made a wish and blew out the candles. Just then my grandmother died. I still celebrate my birthday. But now, I'm careful what I wish for.

Hello CD. What's a well-written story with a bit of a shocking ending. I believe you captured the essence of the challenge and wrote a disturbing little Halloween story. It's well-conceived and well-written. I wish you good luck in the contest. Robert
