I absolutely love and adore your poem! Great rhyming and it made me laugh. I, too, was from the good ole days of typing on a manual and using two spaces after a period. I'm now studying proofreading and the new normal, as you point out, is one space. It takes some getting used to! I enjoyed the vent! :)

Aww.... Thank you so much for the great review! I am so happy that I am not the only one who can use this to "reminisce" on the good ole days! So glad you enjoyed! Thank you again! Stay safe and enjoy your day!

Wow, this is such a cool poem. I had no idea that double spaces were even a thing - but it makes perfect sense. Your poem has done such an excellent job of expressing the importance of what may seem minor - you draw the audience in with the drama of this injustice and both entertain and make them sympathize with your woes. I think that the single (lazy) space is also indicative of how rushed society has become . . . it seems like people are always in a hurry.

Hi, Nickie! Thank you so much for the wonderful review! This truly has been a long-standing annoyance of mine and I had a fun time putting it into rhyming sequence! I'm so glad that you enjoyed and sympathized with my plight! Thank you again and have a beautiful day!

I still remember the "typewriter" days. Your poem is quite humorous. It has a good amount of detail and the rhyme scheme works well within it. The image complements it nicely.

Happy Friday Mimi Linny. Thank you for sharing your poem, I think you executed well within the rules of the writing prompt. Good job I see why you won the contest.

As someone who got straight A's in English class, I know the rule and still follow it today.

Happy Friday to you, too! I'm so happy I'm not alone and have found so many, like you, who are still following the logical rule of "two spaces required!" I'm so happy that you enjoyed my poem and thank you so much for the wonderful review! Have a super day!

"With sentences blending like grammarly gaffe
But now it's the mindset of technology
That one space at the end of a sentence should be" My computer corrects me when I put two spaces. If course, when I do, it's a typo on my part anyway. I never took typing so this is all new to me. I love your rhyming scheme and I'm glad you got this burden off your chest. And, I hope there's a writer's club out there where you can share this poem in their newsletter.

Thank you so much for the wonderful review! It's one of those annoyances that some of us who learned "typing" the old way just can't get over. Not sure at what exact juncture this change occurred, but since "keyboarding" took over, the new rule has been rampant! LOL! Thank you again for the great review and am so happy that you enjoyed! Have a beautiful day!

I'm with you. I'm a two spacer from way back. In fact, it's news to me that what you said is now the norm. I sure enjoyed reading your lilting poem with the info that I didn't have. Good picture.

Thank you so very much for the lovely review and so happy that you enjoyed! I was shocked when I originally found out that the two space rule had been "over"ruled and was now what was being taught in the schools! Again, thank you so very much for the wonderful review! Have a wonderful day!

I have to say, I totally agree with what you're talking about here, even though I'm guilty of it these days. Yes, whatever did happen to two spaces after a full stop (or period in US speak)? I remember my daughter when she was in school saying that two spaces were no longer considered necessary, but...who decreed it so? And again, will we soon be so lazy that paragraphs will only be separated by a first line indent rather than two spaces between? I hope not!

Loved your poem, related to what it said, and hope it wins the contest. Good luck!

Thank you so much for the wonderful review and am so happy that you enjoyed! Like you, my grandchildren have told me that there is only one space needed after ending punctuation...in fact, one of my granddaughters told me her teacher would mark her down if she used two when typing her reports! I guess I'll never learn! LOL! Thank you again for the great review and have a great evening!

No worries, and you have a great night! It's lunch time almost in Australia, so I'll be sure to have a great day lol!

Grammar sure has changed a lot in recent years. So much so, I'm wondering if those of us schooled in the "Queen's English" actually are behind the times!

And you have a wonderful lunch! My granddaughter is currently in New Zealand doing her final 8 weeks of student teaching so I'm guessing the time zone may be similar to yours (although I think it may b 2:00 in afternoon on the 22nd) where she is! Again, have a wonderful day, enjoy your lunch... and thank you again for the lovely review!

All good and you too! Currently in New South Wales, it's 12.20pm on the 22nd, so we're about an hour and a half behind NZ

Wahoo Mystery Writer!
You are "spot on!"
Your "psychologist" is definitely correct as well.
I despise the one space after a sentence, but I thought I was the lone complainer!
When I taught writing at the high school and collegiate levels, I used to joke with my students that this was simply a diversionary tactic of publishers to make students pay an exorbitant amount of money for newer textbook editions! And it seemed to me that whoever these sentence authorities were, they definitely lacked a sense of humor or life!
I've been called out here on FanStory as well when I "forget" that the gods of sentence periods are reviewing my work!
Well, kudos to you!
(Perhaps we should start a revolution!)
Best Wishes!

I will be looking forward to finding out who my "partner in sentence period crime" is!

Oh, this one must have a 6! When I learned to TYPE in the late sixties--on a machine like the one in the sketch--I, like you, was told I MUST leave two spaces after the period ending a sentence. I have finally gotten used to leaving one space! Your poem is superbly written, well-detailed, and
amusing. Great piece

Thank you so much, Janice! It's been a pet-peeve of mind for so many years! LOL! It probably seems trivial to many, but there are so many good reasons why the 2 space rule was put in place! Thank you so much for the wonderful review! I'm so happy you enjoyed!

Well said. I use two spaces after each sentence. It's the proper way, and was the norm until all this texting technology came on the scene. Without the double spaces, it makes the piece look crowded and crammed. I'd like to know who came up with the idea, too.

Hi, Mommy! So happy that you enjoyed this and that you can commiserate with my feelings! Such a pet-peeve of mine and just can't understand why this norm was changed... You're so right... with the new texting technology, everything has been condensed! LOL! Thank you again for the great review and have a wonderful day!
