HELLO POET: Thank you for introducing us to Sweet Lolita. What i like is that you knew how to properly care for her for nearly eleven years. That's extremely interesting. You were truly dedicated to your purpose. You succeeded in what you endeavored to do...because you did it with your hearts. You are good people. God bless you and yours, Poet. CIAO, dear friend. Cordially: rhonnie69.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts through your story. It was a very nice story and I enjoyed reading it. I also felt your heartache at her loss. Very touching.

Imagine a squirrel monkey so far from its natural habitat. They are beautiful creatures but not really meant to be pets. My family kept one for a while. It ended badly when it went into our neighbour's yard and got mauled by the dogs. Her name was Ten and we still remember her with love. I recall the feel of her cold little hands.

I'm glad you got to enjoy Lolita's company for many years

Good luck in the contest.

Blessings Julia

This is quite the story. I must say they're rather cute. I admire you for having one as a pet. Did you have a cage to put it in at night or did you just let it run its good measures within your house. Wonderful story.

We couldn't touch her for many weeks .. We just poked our finger through the bars and rested it on the rod then one day she came closer and finally sat on our finger and we began to tickle her .. More time past then one glorious day she jumped out of the cage .. It was a great day for all.

After that the only time she went in her cage was at night .... finally we could installed a platform ...they can't rest well ... just dose....perched like birds on a rod as I found her that first day I saw her in the window on sale.

She would sleep laid out with a tiny wooly teddy bear..

In the long winter season we would turn on an electrical pad which we placed on top of her cage so as to keep inside warm for her during the night.

But ️come morning she was up ,out and about roaming the house freely and no crazy diapers or baths.
She kept herself scrupulously clean ; like a cat does, licking and also combing through her fur with her fingers.

Her favourite all time spot was my shoulder and she would hang on by wrapping her tail tightly around my neck like a choker.

Ps: you can read more about her in my other replies to poster before you.

Thank you for the kind review!

This is an interesting story about a unique (to a New Yorker) animal who became your beloved pet. Your story is an excellent contest entry. The pictures are a great addition.

Having a tropical monkey from the Amazon finish up in a country ( Italy) that for eight months is cold showed how ruthless these smugglers were.

I hope the situation is better now

Glad you enjoyed the read .. Lolita was like our baby .. at night she used to go to bed with a tiny teddy bear licking a sugared elmond.

Her palm hands had 5 digits just like ours and her fingers were long and elegant.

Once while hunting she took a Dalmatian for a spotted leopard ( a predator in her native land) and she panicked in fright.

It made me so sad reading this and feeling the little monkey's distress at being taken from her family group. But she got lucky that it was your family that took her in. Your story describes her life with you very well - we get an understanding of her personality.

Six months after we bought Lolita the pet shop had another squirrel monkey on sale .. I remember how I felt so sad and angry and helpless.

We had 11 extraordinary years with her.

She was our baby , she had tiny hands like us with 5 enlongated digits.

Her favourite colour was orange and in the afternoon she would nap on the couch with my papa ' nestled in his hair.

She was small but big hearted .. She died in a freak accident ..

The iron rod of one our shutters faulted as she was climbing it and it hit her.

She died within 24 hours ..her fur started falling out ..

    She passed away calmly.

    She did do something strange.

It was Winter yet she went to the front door to be let out.

She never asked to go out in Winter ..too cold for a tropical monkey.

    She knew she was dying.

We cremated her in our garden furnace and keep her tiny bones in a small onyx box.

Thank you for reviewing my entry. sorry for the long reply

That is excruciatingly sad. I had tears in my eyes. I could feel the love. Sweet Lolita. Poor little wild animals at the mercy of humans. The little creatures must be terrified in pet shops by themselves. She was so lucky to live with you, but other owners might be unkind ones.
