This is a well told story about the sane fear of doing something daring and dangerous. I believe you are right in your statement in penultimate paragraph. I thouoght that this would be the only thing I wouldn't do in the sky because my cousin became one of the statistics of skydiving. He broke a vertabrae on his fall.
Congrats on tying for second in the contest
Keep writing
Happy Holidays.

hi Brett even though I've never skydives I do feel that riding in a small plane where normally they don't provide parachutes or the passengers is foolish.
Give me TWA or Delta airlines any day and I'll fly.
Well written and glad that you survived to write another day!

Nope, Not something I would do. I don't believe you should tempt death. My luck he would visit and enjoy every minute of my dismay. I never was a thrill seeker. I admire those who are. Good article. Good luck with that bull, Bret. Maybe you should start with a bucking horse? Nancy:)

This was a terrific account of that skydiving experience. All the normal feelings were on display, including that inkling that gravity can be a fickle mistress. Best of luck on the bull. That may make hurtling to the ground from 13000 feet seem like a walk in the park.

I found no mistakes, only excellent writing and a little bit of humor mixed in for good measure. Very nicely done and totally held my attention, even to the brahma bull. LOL

I've never known anyone who sky jumped or ever heard anyone describe this experience. Your story made me feel like I'd done it. Good luck in the contest

Hi Brett. My husband was a paratrooper and often described the experience. My son and his wife made a jump as you have described. They said they'd love to do it again. You're described your emotions, sensations, and afterthoughts. Great job. I think you may mean "posterity" here:
"For prosperity's (posterity?) sake, my death-defying stunt would be videotaped by Ryan Cribatters, who conducted a short interview with me on tape."
Good luck in the contest. Marilyn

This meets the contest requirements splendidly as you deliver a complete and engaging story in the word count allotted. The content speaks to the experience of that first jump well as only those who have done it can fully appreciate it. I've done three and wish health had not prevented more. There is nothing like that free fall experience. I liked the sentence about being close to death lending a certain amount of lucidity to general reality as it is a very true statement of fact. Good luck in the judging and thank you very much for sharing it.

Wow! Thanks for sharing your big adventure with us! You're brave to do it. I was really surprised that you had to free fall for 60 seconds before pulling the cord. I thought only 30 seconds max! But I guess you started at a really high elevation!

I enjoyed reading this real life story about the exhilaration experienced while parachuting. You did a great job taking the reader through the experience where he feels like he participated. Look forward to your next adventure.
