Hello mystery writer. Obviously, you have complied with the rules for a 1-9-1. You called a nice image with your words and have completed a statement. Good luck in the contest.

Oh, yes, bring on those swirling leave of many colors. I love fall--the first half of it anyway. You have made excellent use of all eleven syllables in
your poem. Love the artwork

This 1-9-1 poem, Leaves, has the correct set up and captures the sights that make us cherish the colors, coolness, smells, and general feel of the season.

The essence of Autumn is 'leaves". They are the sum total of Fall. It isn't any wonder that the abbreviation of Autumn has become Fall, since that is mostly what happens. Leaves fall, all over and we are surrounded. The beautiful scenery that they portray just before the fall and the comfort of shuffling through them as we walk. The fun of piling them into a great mess to jump into. Yet in these few words you depict a bevy of leaves.

I enjoyed your contest entry, Mystery Author. Good job with its criteria. Your words plus art pair nicely. I like the use of the word Fall in the last line--kinda like a double meaning for the season an the fact that leaves fall. Thanks for sharing and best wishes. Respectfully with Love, Jan

I like the leaves too. Leaf piles and leaf fights with the grandkids are so much fun. I'm just not so thrilled about what comes next. I dread the snow and winter driving.

A delightful pairing of a photo with your 1-9-1 contest entry. I like how your camera focuses on leaves swirling in the breeze "around youngsters' feet." Your last word spotlights the season. Rod

This is a cleverly constructed, easy flowing write that sets a scene and promotes a feeling of pleasure and relaxation. The final word relates back to the first both as a verb and as a seasonal word.
Nicely done. Good luck in the contest.

Dear julia, Thank you for your comments, compliments and review, and for understanding the relation between the first word and the final word. I was surprised at the way it came out myself when I wrote it.
Comment from Susan Larson
I love all the word play in your poem. The leaf, it leaves the tree. The leaves fall, in the fall. Your first word, leaves. Your last word, fall, so leaves fall. And then your inner rhyme, streets and feet. Really fun swirling around your words.

Oh, this one delivers an upbeat feeling with the seasonal 'bookends' and the delightfully rhymed 'in-between'! ;) :) Thanx for sharing and best of luck at the polls! ;)
