This is a very cute story with a poetic flair. I like the repeated verses to bridge the next thought. It adds sense of excitement and jubilee as they go to see the lizard.
I was unsure of the conclusion, but it sounded as if they died?

We're off to see the thunderful lizard of gauze."
"Word has it that the lizard is as mean as a wet cat.
But we courageous rats ain't worried 'bout that."
"Mostly what the lizard does is really gory tragic.
Don't say we told ya...but the lizard has secret magic."

this is cute. i found this to be very clever. the only thing i would change is removing the quotation mark from this sentence: "We're gonna raid that castle...with egoistic cause." Because
it's a great poem though, and i love the line about the castle being haunted
