Sorry to hear of your loss. This is a nice short ode to your father-in-law. He is probably waiting for his favorite dog to join him before he hunts again.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep witing

Thanks, Joan. Roscoe passed away yesterday. So yeah, I told him to go hunting with Gene!

You're welcome. Sorry to hear about your loss. He most probably is with Gene.

I love your author's notes. Animals are psychic to some extent. So you may be right. It just wasn't Roscoe's time. Good use of metaphor.

Thanks, Shari. Roscoe finally passed away yesterday. Again, so eerie. He went downhill so fast. It was like he knew. . . . I got accepted to the Marine Systems Program the day prior. And. . . I dunno. The timing of everything lately is creeping me out.

Congrats on your acceptance.
No coincidence. Roscoe definitely knew.

Another fine poem, Aiona--and doesn't it seem like when it rains, it pours? Sure makes you think--Sorry for your loss. I'm glad that your dog decided not to go, however, that's something positive

Thanks for the positive review, Mike. Yes, I am glad Roscoe's doing better this morning. This year has been a year full of changes, some very somber ones. But overall good change. I'm happy to have some place to vent. Poetry is an awesome way to vent. Do you feel better when you write, too? It's cathartic for me.

Yes I do, in a way I don't fully understand, after all, it won't be alter the reality

May be he is the gene, he goes on making more adventures, may he perform the job finding himself a good hunting dog; mystic and thrilling; well said, well done to

Thanks for sharing this tribute to your father-in-law in a creative way that includes your own hunting dog. Pets become such an important part of a family when they are really loved.

Thank you, Bill. Yes, I think writing poetry about things that make me emotional is very cathartic. I saw an article today about a pair of brothers from Africa who created an alphabet for their language - there wasn't one before they made it. And now it's being used by their people to write books both technical and fictional! Everyone wants to share. I think it's ingrained in us, right? Here's a link to the article.

It shows the alphabet they made too. It looks similar to Arabic, but they say it's completely new because their language has sounds that aren't represented in any other alphabet.
